    3 Off My List

3 more species were found last night on the other side of the city.

    #1 - Eastern Phoebe (i think)
    #2 - male Scarlet Tanager
    #3,4,5 - male Wood Duck

I realize the wood duck is probably pretty common in some parts but I have never seen one. Extremely shy and very alert.

The Scarlet Tanager was a fortunate find. It was getting late and I was leaving the woods when I spotted a flash of red. I knew it couldn't be a cardinal this deep in the woods so I stopped and waited. A male/female pair were courting. I couldn't get a shot of the female. Had to tip-toe through a large patch of poison ivy.

    Thanks for looking.

#2 the scarlet tanager to me looks blurred a bit (not your typical LOUPEY quality)

    I love the ducks ... was torn between the last 2 ... I think I like shot 4 over 5 ...
the reflection in 5 is sweet ... but he just jumps out in shot 4 ... with all the green and then BAM there he is ... GREAT SHOT !!

#5 is definitely my Favourite in this set Loupey.

I see what you were saying about the Tanager... definitely a low light / soft focus issue there... but hey .. you got the shot... so be prepared.

Tip toe'ing through poison Ivy?? I hope you were wearing long pants =)

    Re: 3 Off My List

Bev - you would've like it, there were 5 or 6 and they would get spooked and take off from one end of the pond to the other. I'm sure you could have pulled off a good in-flight or two of them.

Ben & Jaedon - you are most correct about the softness there. I don't recall the shooting specs but they were quite disgusting. I was happy that #4 came out as sharp as it did. Equally low lighting conditions. As for the poison ivy, I was not happy about it at all - I was wearing shorts and I have a high sensitivity to poison ivy. I can't just get a little bit of it - I usually get covered (I've even had it on my eyelids). Luckily dodged a bullet this time.

Cinnamon - thanks for looking! There are a lot of little different things that have to come together to get a successful image. You have to pay attention here and participate to gain the "secret"

Copy - yeah, I figured they are like snipe hunting - everyone's seen them except me I hope to get back when the lighting is better. Love to see just how bright those colors are.

    All great images!

Yes the wood duck by nature is extremely secretive!
