Question Ultra Wide Lens? How to Protect better?

I recently bought a new lens, the Sigma 14mm F2.8 EX Aspherical (HSM) and am wondering how am I going to protect the HUGE front element. I bought it on EBay, so I don't know if there is a lens cap or what. It came with a sleeve of some sort to help protect it, but I would think there would be more.
Does anyone have a similiar lens, what do you do to protect the front element?
    Thanks!

I used to have that lens. For storage it should ahve come with a large outer ring (plastic) which slides over the built-in filter. Then, a lens cap snaps into that large outer ring to completely cover it.

If you're missing the hard plastic thing (hopefully it;s the sleeve you're talking about) then you might want to find a way to get a hold of a new one.

Let me know if I didn't make that clear.

I've got the sigma 15-30 which is quite bulbous.

    What the...what bad marketing!
14mm is not the world's widest rectalinear lens!

    12mm is!

    I got you Trevor...

Yes, I do have the ring/sleeve, but no cap or filter of any sort...
    Thanks!

Personally, I'd get a hood for it. Either a plastic or a metal one, but I'd put something around that glass to protect it. Got to take care of that precious Nikon glass!

It has a built in hood.
I can't wait to use it!
I have something planned the end of next month.

Do you have a film body to put it on? I looked thru a 14 on a film body and it's just crazy - in a good way! I don't think the hood can do a lot of good - the angle of view is so wide that it can't protect much or it will vignette. Be careful is good advice.

Nikon and Sigma have had their 12-24 zooms out for a while now, but Voigtlander has had a 12mm prime for their 35mm rangefinders for several years...

Yah, the hood is pretty much useless.....watch out for flare!
