Still looking for Nikon DE-3(HP) viewfinder

I've searched KEH, ebay, Midwest Photo Exchange, and my local camera shops don't have any.

If anyone has any other information or sources, please let me know!

Maybe someone here has one laying around that they'd like to sell me?

Any help much appreciated.

There's a DE-3 on ebay right here. I searched with and without the hyphen, and it came right up - DE3 and DE-3 are seen as two totally different things.

However - this looks like the original F3 finder (smaller), not an HP and does not say "HP" on it. Check to see if this is really what you need, but another option if you really want one could be to buy an F3HP (camera with finder), and either sell that body with your finder or the camera with finder that you already have.

I wish I could change the view finder glass in my D70... with the old standard micro prism and slit prism like the old Standard FTN or F screen. My eyes correct for out of focus on the plain ground glass.

KEH has one (listed under DE3, no hyphen), in the Camera Store---> Nikon Manual Focus---> Prisms and Finders. It's the second listing.

YES, I knew that there's one(1) being sold on eBay right now it's on my watch list and I'm going to try to get it, however, there's a pretty good chance that I won't win it, and this is the only one that's been on eBay in a period of 3 weeks. And this is even if it is an HP, because if it's the one shown in the picture, it is not.(no HP). I'm going to ask the guy...

About just getting the F3 HP, I've thought about it, but the F3 I have right now is in good condition, and I'd rather not go through the hassle of eBay's chances of failures.

But why is the KEH one not a good one? if I remember correctly it was in EX condition, which by their extremely conservative grading means it's going to be great.

Good you asked - you would have wound up with two that you didn't want! It did look small compared to the HP version. Sometimes you just have to be patient with stuff like this. Playing the waiting game will get you the best deal, but its up to you how long you want to wait.

Like I said, you might not be out a lot of money by buying an F3HP, swapping finders and then selling the resulting F3. Sometimes people sell them with other stuff, which can be a chance to make back more money. A few years ago I bought an F4 with a couple lenses and some accessories and sold most of it individually. Did pretty well on that deal, but it can be a gamble.

I know right? I have actually been playing the waiting game for about a month now, I always wait with things like this until I know I have a good deal.

It's funny though, I knew that the HP viewfinder was bigger, and had an "HP" smacked right on the front of it, but when I looked at the picture I just awed at it's cleanliness and great condition I didn't even realize it wasn't a HP.

I have thought about doing the swap thing your suggesting before, but through my research(reviewing the "f3 hp" search results almost every day), I've figured that buying the F3 HP would probably be 250-300 minimum(and this is the bottom as the boat goes as far as they go on eBay). Also F3's with the DE-2 viewfinder generally are going for less.

One will come up eventually.
