    Point and Shoot camera recommendation?

Hi, I'm new to the forum here and I'm sure this one has been asked millions of times but please bear with me this once. I recently had my Canon Sure Shot 120 Classic stolen while on a trip. It took great pictures, JMHO, and I was looking for a replacement. I was inquiring if any of you aficionados could lead me to a similar product if not better, point and shoot of course. I was told that PENTAX made some hi-quality stuff. I know LEICA also makes one but it is much more that I want to spend. I am willing to spend $250. Thanks again all.

Have to admit that I'm not an expert here, but I've had a Pentax IQ90WR for a few years and it's held up well. I use it on the water when kayaking, and am not gentle with it - so it's very durable! I've also heard good things about Olympus for P&S cameras, might want to check them out too.

With a budget of $250, the point & shoot market is pretty well wide open to you. That's also enough money to get a basic, lightweight SLR, if you've ever considered that. There are advantages to having thru the lens viewing and interchangeable lenses.

I had a Pentax IQ Zoom several years ago, which had real good optical qualities. It could also 'take a lickin and keep on tickin', but it was a bit hard on batteries - which I think most are, really.

Canon, Nikon, and Minolta also have extensive lines of point & shoots that would be in your price range. I think Minolta would offer the best optical quality and build quality for the money. Of course, I am a 'Minolta Man', so I'm naturally a bit prejudiced.

So, hit the stores and note what models you like the looks and feel of, then come back to us or the internet to check features and experience with specific models. Don't let any salespeople 'fast talk' you into a choice, cause they're naturally going to push whatever they get the biggest kickback on, and you'll end up sorry you listened to them.
