    Question Photoshop CS

I just got PS-CS and I found out during the insalation process that it wont work on my system because I'm running Windows 98. So here's my question. Can I just download, and instal Widows XP on my PC and then load CS or will installing XP delete everything that I already have on my system?

XP upgrade will not delete everything on your computer, but I can't emphasize enough that you should back up all your important files before attempting to load XP upgrade to 98.

These are CS system requirements. Check these to see if CS will run on your computer.

    Minimum PC System Requirements

PC Processor TypeIntelŪ PentiumŪ III processor or equivalent

PC Operating SystemWindows 2000 (w/Service Pack 3), Windows XP

    PC System Memory192MB RAM

    PC Hard Drive Space2GB

    PC Video1024 x 768 16-bit video card

    PC Drive Type and SpeedCD-ROM

PC Additional RequirementsInternet service required to access online features, QuickTime 6.3 required for multimedia features

Q: What do air conditioners have in common with computers?
A: Neither works well with Windows open!

OK - really, really bad joke but Lara is right about backing up. Backups are always important but especially in a case like this.

    BTW - 192mb of RAM? I have 512 and it's painfully slow! I'd go with a gig...

LOL Steve! I haven't heard that analogy before. I'll have to remember that one.

Oh, and minimim requirements listed by most manufacturers are often too low for optimal use.

    Depending on the hardware, yes.

But I will be very honest with you, I wouldn't advice it, because it's my experience as professional computer guy that it has the tendancy to make your system less stable or to introduce annoying glitches, even when Microsoft intended the update to be used with win98 systems.

    My advice would be;

    a) backup your personal data (I'm more than willing to advice you what you need to backup)
    b) format partition
    c) install XP
    d) install service packs or updates
    e) install applications
    f) restore data

I can understand that this might be too much of a challenge for you. If that's the case ask someone to do it for you, but not just the wanna-be-computer-expert next door.

Even if you decide to update the existing system... you will have to reinstall a new operating system one time in the future, because you can't continue to update existing systems with every new windows version after version, because this will lead to a total mess one day.
