    Nikon Flash problem ...

See below. I posted this in the nikon forum already but no takers. Ideas on this? Thanks in advance - GB

I just noticed a strange issue with my D200. It sometimes sets the aperture to f 22 when using the flash, the built in or with a hot shoe flash. The camera was always in aperture priority.

Has anyone else had this problem? What do you think is causing it? It is doing it very intermittently. I have to set it back to whatever aperture I want, say 5.6 or 8.

    Sorry

I saw the original post. Didn't ring a bell. Just tried it out on my D200. No sign of it setting f22 no matter what I do to it.

    Another puzzling problem.

    Re: Nikon Flash problem ...

Never had that happen with my D200 and SB800, and most of the time my camera is in A at around 5.6 or 8 with flash. However, I tend to use the flash as a remote a lot of times.

Curious, does this happen when you use it as a remote? And does it happen very often? Certain lens? Not that I have any answers, just the process of elimination.

    Re: Nikon Flash problem ...

I originally noticed it on my SB-800. But then I realized it was happening with my built-in flash (pop up) too. I only tried it w/ my Tamron 24-135mm lens ... Good idea to swap them out and see if there's a difference. It was happening about every 10 shots or so. Restarting it temporarily fixed it (they must be taking lessons from Microsoft ..)

What scares me is that when things like this that start happening out of the blue, it usually lead to one thing only: a chip malfunction. Happened on my old FA camera when it got superheated out in the desert .. was never the same. Keeping my fingers crossed that this isn't the case!

    Re: Nikon Flash problem ...

By the way guys, it is doing it even without the flash I need to check it on other lenses. Also, it's f 16, not 22 like I said.

Have you checked out the Nikon web site? Have you checked to make sure your firmware is up to date?

    Re: Nikon Flash problem ...

    Thanks. I'll try it.

I really don't see how this will help though, since I've had the camera for 2 years, and it just started acting up about one and a half months ago. But who knows.
