    Unhappy sony cybershot problem

I have a 2-3 year old Sony Cybershot 3.2 megapixel digital camera. Just last week when I was going to take some pictures, the larger viewing "window" on the back would not show any thing the camera was pointing at. It was completely dark. I had to look into the little tiny view finder to see what I was aiming at. This is a big aggravation because the larger window is what displayed, not only the object the camera was aiming at, but also the icons to indicate if the flash was on etc. Does ANYONE know what could have caused this to just quit working all of a sudden? Is there something I can do to fix it myself? My battery is completely charged so that is not the problem. I'd appreciate hearing from any of you with your hints, tips, suggestions, etc. Thanks so much. Rabbit

Dead display, eh? Afraid that ain't a do-it-yourself fix - nor is it a cheap one.

You should double-check all the controls, to be absolutely certain you don't simply have the display turned off. If that don't bring it back to life, then it's repair or replace time. It's likely that camera replacement would be cheaper than the repair.

What kills them? Dang near anything, actually. Quite common is physical impact - a simple light bump, just right, is sufficient. Another killer is Age - which you wouldn't think so at just 2-3 years, would you? But quite possible. Especially if the camera has been in storage a while, and subjected to hot or cold extremes.
