Need some help with a Ansco 735 - Please!

Hello, I am new here so first off I would like to say "Hi!" to everyone. Now on to my question. When my grandfather passed away about 5 years ago I wanted one of his camera's because he was very into taking pictures at every family event and that was just what he came to be known as was the family photographer. Well I got the camera below (pic from ebay but the same as mine) and I more or less just wanted it for sentimental reasons and not really to take pics with. Well I was cleaning out my closet the other day and found it again and just happened to realize there are 25 pictures taken on it and I would like to have those. Well I replaced the batteries in it which the old ones were very coroded and the camera still doesn't seem to work. I am wondering is there any way to manually rewind the film so I can take the film to get developed since the motorized rewinder isn't working ? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You have to completely remove all the corrosion from the battery compartment. All metal must be clean of corrosion before any current will flow. The corrosion is non-conductive.

You can remove the film using a dark bag or know also as film changing bag and hand roll the film back into the cartridge, is your other choice.

Be aware that if it the camera and film was exposed to hot weather (high temperatures) it can fog the film (especially color film being more sensitive).

You can use a pencil eraser to remove corrosion, taking care not to bend or break the contacts.

I don't know about this camera but in the last about ten years each camera that I have purchased for my parents or kids took the film out of the cartridge upon loading it and as it was shot returned it back into the cartridge to keep it safe. This way if the back came open only the unused film would get exposed keeping all your pictures safe from accidentally ruining them. If you can find out that this is how your camera works you could just open the back and take the film out and your pictures will be safe, Jeff

Sorry I dont mean to be so needy but do you have any idea where I could find this out ? I googled the model number of the camera but didnt really come up with much, I didnt realize this same model number is now used for a digital camera.

You might pay a bit more for developing at a "real" camera store but I'm pretty sure they would remove the film properly, with one of those bags or in a dark room for you and you wouldn't need to buy the bag.
Just explain what's going on and by "real" camera store, I do not mean any of the chain retailers or Ritz.

You can order the changing bag on line (large format camera suppliers), but like Frog said a "real" camera store will correctly and safely remove the film and develop it also.

That is a very big IF there, and I wouldn't advise anyone to try it if there are any images that might be wanted. Going to a decent camera shop would be best.

I think you guys are right I am going to look in to some places and take it to a camera store. Now if this is stupid dont stone me but is Click Camera a good store to go to ?

PAul, if he can find out for sure that his camera takes all the film when it is loaded and runs it to the take up real as it is loaded, the only thing he may loose is the last photo if the camera stopped working after the last shot. My dad is 89 years old and has opened his camera more than once and never lost a shot. I would only suggest this if you found out for sure it worked this way. My dad and son has had this happen on more than one occasion with different cameras so I know for a fact it works.

I TOTALLY AGREE that taking it to a real camera store would be by far the best option. If he takes it I would highly suggest taping a note explaining the problem to the camera because this information may not get passed along to the person actually taking the film out of the camera, Jeff
