Need manual or basic instructions for Sigma EF-430 flash

I was hoping that someone can help me with a flash that I have. I have a Sigma EF-430 Super that I bought about 5 years ago to go with my Canon Rebel 2000 SLR. I'm looking to buy a new digicam and I would like to use the flash with it. I want to be able to set the flash to the appropriate manual mode, but I have misplaced the manual.

Repeated emails to Sigma have gone unanswered. It's a decent little flash, I want to be able to use it more. If anyone can help me, that would be greatly appreciated.

Moderator's Edit - the correct number is EF-430, not EF-340 as originally posted.

Surprising to hear that Sigma's emails have gone unanswered - I've never dealt with them but I always have heard good things about them.

I'm not familiar with that flash but still might be able to help a little bit. Can you post a picture of the front and back of it? It's a lot easier to explain that way.

Do you want instructions for Sigma EF-430 flash?

Do you mean the 430 series flash? That is an older flash that I imagine has been out of production for sometime. Sigma may take a few days to answer questions and if your subject line has 340 in it and they are using an automated filter, it probably does not know what to do with the query. The flash may not work with anything other than a Canon digital camera. And it may not work with all of them either. These flashes are system flashes and don't work off a PC sync port.

I'll check some sources and see if anyone I've communicated with has a manual, but it probably is just matter of scrolling through some MODE options on the flash until it says M or Man or Manual or something like that on the display. You should be able to then set different fractional levels of output.

Re: Need manual or basic instructions for Sigma EF-340 flash

I was having a dyslexic moment when I posted this message. It's an EF-430 Super. I did get the model number correct in the emails to Sigma, their filters should have allowed my email in.

I'm thinking about getting a camera like the Panansonic FZ30 and using the 430 with it. Thanks again!

I heard back from Sigma. They were short staffed due to the PMA show and will be mailing me out the documentation.

Re: Need manual or basic instructions for Sigma EF-340 flash

The "real" manual is the best way to go, and I didn't think about the PMA show going on, makes sense that they're short staffed this week.

"Mode" should get you into Auto, Manual or possibly any other modes it has. The arrow buttons will adjust the settings on the flash, like your ISO speed and lens aperture. Not sure what "ENT" is for though, maybe "Enter" after you've changed a setting?

Re: Need manual or basic instructions for Sigma EF-340 flash

The manual arrived today, but it's the manual for an EF-430ST and it has a different set of controls on it. I'm going to reply back and ask if they have the manual for EF-430eo-n. Pressing the mode mode button toggles through a range of settings and symbols on the display, none of which are in the ST manual. Oddly enough the "ENT" had no effect at any time.
