I just discovered that my beloved F100 and a Nikon 28-105 lens are missing - probably stolen by one of the tradesmen/workmen stomping thru our house over the past few weeks. I am, of course, very upset and wondering what to do to replace it. Could it be that this is an opportunity? My choices are:
1. Get a replacement F100. The price is dropping AND there is a $200 rebate currently in effect (That's in the neighborhood of 20% - usually a sign that sales are slow and the end is near).
2. Now that Nikon has introduced the F6, the former state of the art F5 is also dropping in price. No rebates, but perhaps a chance to "move up" to that dream from 3 or 4 years ago.
3. I have not yet taken the digital plunge? Is now the time? Nikon is also offering a rebate on the D70. I am still not real thrilled with the state of digital, but it's the wave of the future and cannot be denied.
I value the opinions of people who frequent this site and would really like to hear what you have to say.

, hopefully insurance will help out with this. You're right - a new F100 after rebate would be ~$750 and a decent (not mint but works fine) F5 would be about the same price. They're very different cameras though. The F5 is heavier and doesn't have the LED's in the finder to show you the AF point. But I've got both now (mainly because of the price drop on F5's) and would probably sell the F100 if I only needed one.
