How to use Hugo Meyer Rangefinder

I just bought a Hugo Meyer Rangefinder off e-bay. (You can see a picture at http://www.dofmaster.com/hyperfocal.html#focusing). Does anybody know how to use it? It looks like you focus with the dial on the right while looking through the viewfinder on the left. Is whatever is in focus is at the distance shown on the dial?

I'm not familiar with that piece of equipment, but rangefinder cameras have two dots in the viewfinder. When the two dots line up, it's in focus. It's not actually the dots; it's the subject that you're focusing on - alot like a split image focusing screen on a manual focus SLR. So I guess you'd focus like that and it will tell you how far away whatever it is that you're focusing on. I know hunters use them to figure out how far their target is so they can take that into account their aim thru a scope.
