HELP with Canon Power shot S410!!!!

I purchased a new canon pwershot S410 and when I received it and took pictures....there were two spots on every picture in the exact spot. The lens was clean so it had to be inside beind the lens somehow.
Anyhow they replaced it and now I have my new one and everything looked fine but now I cannot get the AF-assist beam to turn off at all. I have turned the function to the OFF position in both the auto and manual settings.
The orange light is bothersome to my daughter and everyone else for that matter! So I can't take any pictures!
In your opinion have I got yet ANOTHER faulty camera or is there something I don't know?
I didn't have the 1st one for bery long but I am positive that I was able to get rid of this onange awful light!

As you mentioned, using the AF-assist beam is optional on the Canon Powershot series, and so you should be able to shut it off whenever you want.

I'm no Canon Tech rep, but the fact that it seems to be stuck on despite you disabling it on the camera menu makes me think the camera may be defective.

One thing you might try is to remove the battery for a while and then reinstall it. This should reset the camera to its default settings. If the S410 is similar to my S400, the default setting for the AF-assist is ON, but this may "unlock" the feature and allow you to disable it.
