    compression for photo critique post

sorry if this post is totally dumb but i am new to the world of digital cameras!

i am looking to post some photo's on the critque page but files are too big.

i read from a search engine that you have to 'save as', click on 'options' and change compression.

unfortunately from all the phot packages i have i cannot do this. i have the following packages . (also which is the most user friendly to edit photos?)

    adobe photoshop 2.0
    photo impression 4
    eos viewer utility

    thanks alot for any help

What you need to do is resize your image to 800x600 or there abouts. Changing the compression is easy if you know how to do it. What programs do you have?

The physical size of the image needs to be below 195k, make sure the resolution is 72 dpi which will change the size significantly as well. It also needs to be no wider then 600. If you have space to save the images elsewhere you can copy the link where they are and post the link to that image as well. If in advanced posting mode on these forums, you select the post a picture and put the link in there, when you do it will show in the edit window as well for you to view.

Reason for the limits, is bandwidth and also so people can view the images in most common screen size without having to use the scroll bars too much as it became a problem in the past.

Hope that clears up the problem for you.

Did you get Photoshop Elements with your camera if so, you can do all this within Photoshop Elements as well, image size. Also remember to save you images as sRGB for the web otherwise they might not look the same as you intended.

Even 600x400 shows up fine on most screens. I re-size in Photoshop, click "save as" (and pick a different location, like desktop) then select a quality level or compression (can't remember exactly what it's called) of 8; 12 being the maximum. It works well - here's an example of what you'll get. The file size is about 110kb.
