What happened to Minolta?

I am finally in a position to purchase a new Minolta Camera (Maxxum 7), and recently discovered that Minolta-or Konica-Minolta, have totally stop producing higher-end cameras.
What happened? I have thousands invested in lenses and other proprietary Minolta gear, and I'm stuck with a new version of my 1996 vintage HTSi?

What happened to the Maxxum 7 and 9?

I know I can get used ones from ebay, and probally will, but what happened?

Just furious and would appreciate some informed insight.

They like the other manufactures are focusing on their Digital lines, but I never heard that they were dropping film all together. The the maxxum 7d if you have all that glass. No more film or nasty lab ppl...lol

Look on the bright side. You can get Maxxum 7 and 9 cheaper now than ever before, even if they are used. I'm still waiting for the EOS-1V and power booster to come down in price though, so it might be a while. I shoot all digital at this point, but There's a certain part of me that just doesn't want to give up film yet.
