    Beginner needs help taking pics

What are the speed and aperture settings for taking pics in 1.) daylight, 2.) overcast/shade, 3.) fast moving conditions, like photographing someone running or a moving car in daylight and in overcast/shade

i tried searching google for the settings, but couldnt find anything:mad2:

There's no single answer for any of those situations. Instead of searching for settings for certain situations, you will be better off by understanding exposure. The Photography Exposure Primer found in the learn section of this site would be a good start.

    Hi,

The settings you use depend on what your subject is, the feeling you want to convey, among other things. For example, if you want to freeze a moving car, then a fast shutter speed and a larger aperture would be better.

I suggest that you read a little about exposure, then go outside and practice, see which aperture/shutter-speed/ISO combinations work best.

Can you tell us what camera equipment you are using. Most cameras have an Auto setting, and if you are just starting out, then this may be the way to go, at least for a while.

    Cheers,

As mentioned there is a HOW TO section under the LEARNING tab at the top of this page.

If you would like to see first hand what the different settings do as they are changed then go to the site below and play with the settings and it will show you how it effects the picture on your computer screen. I really like this site and suggest it to anyone just starting out, Jeff
