    Hand held light meter recommendation

Anyone got a recommendation for a reasonably priced hand held light meter? My trusty OM-1 has accuracy issues since the discontinuation of mecury batteries. It is a great camera and I would hate to "retire" it.

Hi Cameron, I'm using a Gossen Luna Pro S and can't recommend it enough. Keep an eye out on Ebay and you can get the regular Luna Pro's, not the S, for about $50 on Ebay. The S adds Zone system readings but, it is almost useless unless you get the multi angle attachment. Then check out http://vintagebatteries.com/ for replacment batteries. I had to do a veryslight calibration on mine but, it is VERY easy to do with the Luna Pro.

If you like to take flash photos, especially off-camera flash, I would highly
reccomend the Sekonic 308S. It is everything but a spot-meter. However,
it's flash and incident readings are 'dead-on'...

Thanks for the advice. I was looking at the Sekonic 308S today online and it seems pretty good. I haven't done much flash photography before. How would you use it in taking flash photos? I have a Metz Mecablitz 36CT2.

I used to have a Sekonic L-508 and I liked it a lot. You may not want that model, because it's big and kinda pricey, but it worked very well and was easy to use. If I was getting another one I would definitely consider the L-308. I sold it because I wasn't using it and I wanted funds for a different camera purchase, but sometimes I wish I still had it.

Re: Hand held light meter recommendation

I have an L-358 and it's a really nice meter, but using the spot metering attachment is a little clumsy. To me, having a spot meter is important and if I had to do it over again I'd probably have gotten an L-508 or L-608.

Any of these three can also trigger pocket wizards if you're ever interested in studio lighting (although a PW system is expensive, and so is studio lighting...).
