One of the best video editing software with free trial version is Wondershare Video Editor for me because of high compatibility of input and output video formats. I usually took videos by kodak with mov formats, which can be only displayed by quicktime, and if i need to edit, i should buy expensive editors or converter from the other third-parties. I don't mind the third-parties but i can't afford high price untile i found Wondershare Video Editor, which support 30-day free trial and i bought it at only $20 in one of their giveaway ($39.99 generally). It can support almost all kinds of input videos:
AVI, DV, DIF, NUT, H261, H264, NSV, FLV, MKV, MP4, M4V, PSP, 3GP, MOV, MPG, MPEG, VOB, DAT, EVO, RM, RMVB, TS, TP, TRP, M2TS, WMV, ASF, DVR-MS

I haven't heard any .mov video editor that's for free. But if you have a video converter, you could convert your videos into windows compatible. Then start editing with movie maker. Movie maker is free for windows users.
