    Dslr lenses

Just a quick Q. Why are some Dslr lenses (Nikon's) so expencive? I thought that w/ Dslrs the sensor is 50% smaller so in using lenses one does not need as much glass to cover the sensor area. If so Dslr lenses should be smaller and use less glass. In turn making them smaller and less costly. So why is Nikon's D lens, the 25-85 2.8ED lens $1350? That's almost the same as their 17~35 lens.

ED lenses are regular lenses, the DX line is the digital series. But even the DX series don't follow through on the promise of smaller and cheaper.
