custom white balance

Please help. I can not figure out how the custome white blance works. I have tryed Ed Pierce's calibration targets and i do not see the results he is talking about. Also, whe I follow the guide book and when I get to # 6 (on page 54) I do not get to NCD70, I get test. What am I doing wrong?

We would need to know the brand and model of the camera to answer... From what you say, is it a Nikon D70? Can't help you there personally but a lot of people here shoot that camera.
