Can't view RAW files using my Canon 20D?

Got my 20d yesterday but am unable to use the ESOviewer utility, it says "Cannot preview this file" and won't let me save any files, this is for JPEGS & RAW images , the camera flashes "busy" and is frozen?

I can transfer JPEG files in photoshop CS but even with the latest RAW plug-in I can't access the RAW files.

I'm going to try using another computer and a card reader, but this is a pain.

I run a 2 year old PC with XP SP-2, I don't know if this is a software or hardware problem? Everything else on the camera is o.k and the computer is running fine.

Any help please...

I had something similar happen to me, but in the end it was *user error*. What I did was in the EOS Viewer utility, expanded the directory tree of the 20D on the top-left to the folder containing the RAW images. From there I copied them to my desktop and was able to view from there. Hope that helps.

Phew, bought a cheap USB2 card reader and all is well. Thank God.

First thoughts on camera, compared slide film images I've scanned they are far sharper. Great quality and the money/time saved developing/scanning will be huge.

As expected not upto Velvia and I will continue to use the film scanner during the summer months when slide film still has an edge.

You might be interested in Fred Miranda's new Velvia Vision PS action he just released. I haven't tried it, but I plan to purchase it for evaluation tonight--I loved Velvia's look. I haven't noticed a big resolution difference from slide film to the 20D, just color and contrast. With a big color and contrast boost I think anything my 20D produces matches or exceeds slides I've taken.

Could you post some pics when you've tried it please? Also can you post the link to the software site? I'm still a rabid fan of Velvia, and even with the 1D Mk II, 10D and PS, I still haven't been able to get the eye popping color and vibrancy that is the hallmark of Velvia 50 slide film. But I was thinking about this later after my former post, I may have to take some of it back...the color space my monitor uses (sRGB) and printing I do (Adobe RGB) may not be able to reproduce the color gamut I am used to from looking at Velvia slides. I can certainly oversaturate and clip color channels until I can reach the midtone contrast, but I may not reach the intensity of the slides. I guess I'll have to print on my i9900 and find out.

Okay, here's a likely file that could use some "pop". I'll try posting the before and after. I used intensity 40%, Contrast 2, Warming Intensity 1, Dynamic Range 3...useful tool for doing all sorts of things, not just saturation.
