    3200 ISO 20D image Vs. 10Dimage

I had some downtime last night as my computer dropped into unix induced coma so I naturally picked up my camera to fool around while it fixed itself (yes it really can do that!). I was shooting handheld with a Sigma 15mm f2.8 fisheye at iso3200 and I don't think I'd ever tried that before since the results on the 10D at iso 3200 were useless unless you converted to b&w, not that there's anything wrong with that... Anyways the results are quite stunning, the noise at iso 3200 has experience at least a stop of improvement if not 2 over the 10D. So anyways here's one pic, untouched, and following that a 100% crop. Shot was done at f2.8 and 1/80th.

    Cool!

Thanks for posting that, Alan. That looks great. Besides the focus, I think the decreased noise is probably the best reason to upgrade from the 10D to the 20D.

Please post that image in the gallery. We need good 20D image samples.

    Now the 10D @ 3200 ISO

I tried my best to recreate the image that I made last night with the 20D, this time with my 10D body. I made one mistake by shooting in AV mode with the same lighting, as far as I can remember (there aren't that many light in my living room), but even though I used AV mode last night the exposure came out different... why I don't know, so I had to push the film one stop in Adobe RAW Converter and it still doesn't look the same... What is important here though is the noise levels really NOT the exposure, I'm just curious why it behaved that way. As far as I know my cameras are both working fine, & I haven't had any funny exposure issues at other ISOs... Anyways, again this is a 10D body with a 15mm Sigma fisheye at f 2.8 at 1/100th ISO3200, custom WB, and handheld. next time I'll do it in manual mode I promise.

From this photo, looks like the 20D@3200 is about as noisy as the 1DmkII @1600. Wow.
Now I'm really drooling over the 20D.

Here is the 20D closeup using noise ninja with the profile I downloaded for the 20D:

    Quite a difference.

That is really cool, thanks for adding to this thread. I have been thinking about getting Noise Ninja and trying it out too. This makes me want to get it even more.

    Re: 3200 ISO 20D image

I was very surprised to see the noise difference between the 10D and 20D. I never even noticed that there was supposed to be an improvment with the 20D. Thanks for the enlightenment

There's a free trial on their website. Images will be watermarked though until you pay for it.

Post a review? We need more software reviews. NoiseNinja is listed in the Noise Reduction Software review section. It would make me happy if you would post a review:

    Thanks!
I'd love to but I'm going to be VERY busy for the next couple months. I'm starting my photo business on top of my full time job and I also have a PC hardware item to review for PC hardware forum as well as planning my May wedding and coming up with some international honeymoon plans. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to do reviews in the future though.

    Perhaps Lionheart would be interested?
