    Lumix DMC-FZ50 HELP!!!

Hi, I owned a similar camera to this Lumix and had no problems with my pictures at any rate but with this camera at no matter what setting my photos upload very very grainy, a lot looking like a water painting...How do I fix this problem and if I cannot should I return it? I really enjoyed the crisp/sharp images I got from my other camera.

    Thank you!

I hope you don't mind that I moved your post to our digital cameras forum

It sounds like you're using the camera at the wrong resolution or quality settings. Is there any chance you can upload a sample photo here for us to look at? Either that or point us to one you've posted somewhere else. It's a lot easier to evaluate when we can see the problem.

    Re: Lumix DMC-FZ50 HELP!!!

I sure can, here is the photo I took of my daughter just an hour ago or so with settings portrait aspect ratio 4:3, pict. size 8m and thats about all I have figured out, I wasn't too zoomed in either. Detail is very important to me, I don't want lose of detail and I'm having a hard time figuring this out. This was a gift from my husband and I'd be upset to tell him what he has invested it wasn't good enough...

    Thank you!

Low light is the problem. Would your previous camera have used the flash for this photo? Using the flash would improve the image quality as far as the grainy, "water painting" quality you mentioned. When you take a picture in low light the camera increases the sensitivity, which in turn creates more "noise," or grain. Your options are to avoid low light or use the flash. But if you use the flash you'll get that harsh flash light. Personally, I like this better. Even though there's a bit of noise, I don't think it's too bad - especially not for a compact camera like the FZ50.

Thank you so much for the information, it was poor lighting now that you mentioned it and I did not use a flash, newbi error of mine. I just took a new picture with the flash and it came out perfect, just how I love them.

    Again, thank you!
