Lets help each other out !!!

I am sure this has probably been ask many times in the past but here it goes again. We are all trying to learn and gain knowledge here so if you have a problem and request help in solving it please post the answer to the problem when you get it so everyone will benefit. We need to share the answers along with the questions so everyone can learn from each others experiences.

Sometimes people ask a question and folks try and help out with an answer but the original person doesn't ever come back to acknowledge the replies. Nobody even has any way of knowing if the replies have even been looked at or read or done any good.

I would think if someone goes through the trouble to try and help you out then it would be nice to come back and at least acknowledge their efforts. I can't help out much myself yet in the answer department but I would think the regulars that do would feel more like helping us if they received some feed back on their efforts.

Just an observation on my part. Thanks, Jeff

Americans talking at Americans is what this site is about, so I just talk at Americans too.

I stopped posting replies on skills or advice. I definitely see no point answering tyre kickers who can't even bother to say "thankyou."

Most moderators and reliable posters, I'm very happy to share information with.

    I'm used to American sites.

Re: Lets help each other out !!!

Hi Everybody!!! I am a newbie and I am certainly hoping that there is somebody out there kind enough to help me. I promise you that if you spend your time answering me then I will be grateful enough to take the time to thank you. Here goes. I have always loved photography. I dream 30 yrs ago was to be a photo journalist. Life took me into nursing instead. I am starting to pursue that passion again as a hobby. My dear hubby is going to purchase the camera of my choice for x-mas. I have been looking at the D300 vs the d90. I am not impressed with a camera that does video, so that is the downside to the d90. I am not a pro, but if i am going to spend the money, i want a camera that will allow me to say for instance, do a wedding, once i have mastered this camera. I plan on taking a class if I have to. On one review that I read on the D300, he was a pro, and he advised an ameteur not to purchase this camera. I need some advice here!!! I have gotten gun shy now!! Can someone advise me, please!! I will only puchase a nikon. I have had 2 nikon 35mm cameras in the past and love nikons quality. I also have AF mount lenses that are nikon lenses and want a camera that I will be able to use these lenses with. Thanks for your time!!!

    Great topic!

t_hyatt: 'll say get the D90 it wil be able ot use the AF lenses you already have and i think it is more user friendly than the D300

I'll recommend you introduce yourself in the Welcome! thread at the viewfinder forum

and post your nikon questions at the nikon forum

    Hello t_hyatt.
First I will ask this forums moderator to move your post to the Help forums so it doesn't get buried here with no one seeing it.
There is more than one pro and/or semi/pro here using the D300. I don't know why the pro advised the amateur not to buy the d300 unless he thought it would be too much camera for him or perhaps thinks that all pros should have full frame cameras or something.
If you already have Nikon lenses then I think you definitly will want to stay with Nikon.
They are the priciest investment we make in our outfits and the ones that last the longest too.

Thanks guys for the input. I realized after I posted this, that I probably should have posted somewhere else. If the moderator will move this where it won't get lost, then I will continue to read the advice shared by others. I am about to pull my hair out. I think i have spent maybe 6 hrs nonstop surfing and researching to make a decision!
    Thanks a bunch!!

Re: Lets help each other out !!!

    Either one of two things.

You have it set to a lower resolution adn are mistaken the compression value for the resolution value setting on your camera.

OR, what I think is the cause:

You are looking at the file size, around 5.5 MegaBytes, 5.5MB, which is about a typical file size for a low compression 10 megapixel image.

To find out the resolution of an image, there are a set of numbers provided, like, 4272x2848. Those are the number of vertical by horizontal lines, multiply them and you will find out your resolution or "Megapixels" 4272*2848= 12,166,656. So, 12 million pixels. The data size can also vary depending on the tonal content of the image. Images with a lot of sharp detail will typically run higher, images with smoother detail will run smaller.
