    Good 3-5 megapixel digital camera

My sister is wanting to get into the digital camera scene and she is looking for a good 3-5 megapixel camera. What is the minimum megapixels that should be considered if she wants decent photos but doesn't want to spend too much? 5 megapixels may be too much but if it is worth the extra money let me know. She is looking for a camera with a small amount of zoom it doesn't have to be extraordinary or anything just a small amount so she can compose her pictures better. My sister has no experience with digital at all and isn't the most technical person so the camera should be pretty easy to operate. Weight and size isn't a major factor but I am sure she would like a smaller one which is easier to carry. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My choice is still the Canon S400. There are newer models out there, but a 4MP S400 will do the job for you wth a minimum of fuss and a very small physical size. There are good deals available on these as used cameras. I still have my S400 and use it more often than my DSLR.

thanks for the reply. I may check that camera out for my sister. It may also be possible to get her a camera with airmiles so if anyone knows of any good cameras that may be sold on airmiles let me know. I'll check to see if the s400 is.

Good Luck! I've been waiting for airmiles to offer a good camera for a year now. I'm waiting for them to offer something more in the middle. Either their too cheap or to expensive for me. Example, the Sony W5, they could of offered the Sony W7 instead. I did contact them and was hoping for some gift certificates so I can purchase one in the store, but no luck. They should have some new cameras by November, but I'm tired of waiting.
I should of mentioned, they offer Kodak DX7630 reviews are good, checked on Cnet.

Any Powershot will do a very nice job.
I have two of them - A10 and A80. A10 with 1.3 MPx produces an exceptional images. A80 is even better, because of 4Mpx.
A80 or a newer A95 - are most highly rated point and shoot cameras everywhere.
There are new ones, which I'm sure of the same highest quality.
Any Canon P&S is an excellent buy.
