    Decisions, Decisions - Eos Xti / D40x

I'm not sure which of these Digital SLR's to buy. I've always owned Canon products, but believe Nikon may be better. I'm trying to choose my first Digital SLR. It's between the Canon EOS Rebel XTi and the Nikon D40x. If both are priced the same, and they are at www.bestpricedcameras.com for $449.00, which is the better choice. The kicker for me is all the Sigma Lens's I have for my Canon 35mm that I believe can be used on the XTi! Please give me your opinions. Thanks!

I'm a Nikon man but for you the xti is the better choice.
The d40x may be the same price but it doesn't have the features.
The xti compares more equally with the D80.
Even if only some of your lenses work with it, you will be far ahead in dollars.

I would recommend the XTi as well. Your lenses will work on it, which puts you way ahead of the game already. Plus the D40x does not have a focus motor, meaning many Nikon lenses are manual focus only on it.

Also, be careful who you buy from. That price seems too low, as I just bought an XTi online for ~$515. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is - that website does not have a good reputation.

Thanks for the heads up on the site, Brad. I missed that part.

Indeed, Dupog do not buy from BESTPriced unless you want to get a gray market camera and have rude sales people insisting you buy a several hundred dollar battery and then tell you its out of stock if you don't buy the battery.

I agree. If you have lenses for an EOS film body, stick with the XTi. I also agree that you should stay away from Bestpricedcameas as well. Go to B&H or Adorama and check their prices. If you find anything that is significantly lower than what they have, stay away from them. Check out the dealer feedback forum to read some horror stories about people who thought they were getting a great deal on a camera.

I total agree with Mike, stick with B&H and Adorama. Also I would look at Amazon, only purchase if it is indeed sold by Amazon and not a second party. As most purchases thru Amazon have no tax or shipping.
When I purchased my XTI I got it from B&H, great company to deal with.

Watch who you are buying from. Don't base you decision wholly on price. Bestpricecameras.com is a division of Infinity Photo and they have a 6 month rating of 0 on reseller ratings not a company I would do business with. Check the dealer feedback forum for a reputable dealer.

Don't ignore Canoga Camera. I think they are top notch. Good luck and proceed with caution. Everyone is after your money.
