Talking Comments on these nude photos I have

Before I posted earlier with this same question I read what Sabastian said was the information needed to place a post here. I think that what was ask for is covered in my post. If you read below and look at the links I have provided you will get to see both cameras without a case on them, or in the nude. I am not asking anyone to cosign a loan, all I would like is some opinions on these two cameras or any suggestions you may have for other makes or models. As you have probably figured out the reference to the nude pictures was to get more people to read my post and maybe respond. I am wanting to purchase this so I will have it here for Christmas pictures. Any input would be helpful so I can hopefully end up with a camera I will enjoy.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To start with I have had two SLR Nikon F's with FTN meters on them for the last 35 years with assorted lens. About 3 years ago I purchased my first digital camera a Kodak DC4800.

Now I am looking to purchase a new digital and I am considering the Kodak P850 or the P880 for my new camera. I will be using it for vacations and pictures of my grandson. I will list some of the things that I would like in a camera below and then give you an address to go to to see and read about my choices.

    P880 http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/new...story_3905.html

    P850 http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/new...story_3906.html

I don't want to be carrying around extra lens. I want everything in one camera.
Wide angle is more important to me that telephoto.
    Video with sound is important.
Use in low light is also important
    Quality pictures of course
    Fast operation of picture taking

I would like opinions on these cameras and any similar cameras you may suggest. Thanks Jeff

Remember you suggestions are neither right or wrong, they are to help me make an informed choice! And Liz, please excuse me for posting these nude pictures! LOL

I don't think you could go wrong with either of those cameras - I'd suggest that you might also have a look at the Canon Rebel XT

Nice post title strategy. The word "nude" always gets results

I tried one of the linls you posted and it didn't work. That's fine with me since it goes to a competitor site. Here are links to the corresponding pages on this site:

    Kodak EasyShare P880

    Kodak EasyShare P850

I just saw both of those cameras at the Kodak EasyShare One gallery in San Francisco. The P880 looks really nice. It's got a very nice lens, excellent features, and a huge, bright LCD. That's what I'd get.

Re: Comments on these nude photos I have

I was debating between the two. They both have the same make lens but what you have to decide on is whether the wide angle or telephoto is more important. My sister-n-law bought the P850 and I went and played with it today. I took some video in the house and played it back on her 32inch tv and I was happy with the picture but you can hear the zoom motor fairly loud in the video when its played back. With the exception of this the camera did very well.

The P880 has a manual zoom that would eliminate this problem and produce no sound at all. I really am more interested in the 24mm wide angle of the P880 but to get it you go from a 12 point optical zoom to a 5.8 or about a 140mm equivalent for 35mm camera. You do add 3mega pix for the P880 which is a plus also.

I would be satisfied with the P850 if the sound of the zoom wasn't in the videos.

    Video

Video isn't something I ever think about. I don't think I've ever shot any video on a digital camera. So I don't have anything to say about that. As far as the lens goes, shorter zooms usually have better optical quality. But I think we're coming at this with very different interests. For me - no video and best optical quality. For you - video and the largest zoom ratio. Still, the 24mm wide end on the P880's lens is pretty special for a digital camera. That will likely be something you miss if you buy the P850. I also think the P850 has image stabilization. In fact, it sort of needs it with that super-long zoom lens.

    Re: Video

Maybe I didn't write my thoughts clearly. I think the Kodak P880 is the winner for me. I will probably order it and a 1 gig fast card within the next few days. The selling features for me is the quality lens 24 to 140mm, the connection for an external flash, and yes I like the quality of the video. This will let me take care of just about any situation without lugging a bunch of photography equipment everywhere.

I love my Nikon F's but they sure are heavy to carry on vacation.

I also have been looking at these 2 cameras...but also am considering the canon S2 IS, the Sony DSC H1 and the Konica Minolta DiMage Z6...have you looked at these and what is your comparison of them all?

Grandpaw...Ritz camera has the Coolpix 8400 for $399.00...similar to all of these with some better features...it is normally a $999.99 camera...

Ken thanks for giving me other choices to look at. On each one I listed something that made me eliminate each of the other cameras and end up choosing the Kodak P880. I did not list everything on each camera, but did list one thing on each that they don't have that the Kodak P880 does have. You are correct in saying that some of these cameras do have some features that the 880 does not have but considering what I am looking for the P880 gives me the most of what I am looking for in my next camera.

The Nikon 8400 will only do 60 seconds of video so I eliminated it. The Kodak is only limited by the amount of battery or memory the camera has.

The DiMage only does half the resolution on video as the Kodak's so I eliminated that.

The Sony has only the built in flash. No hot shoe or external flash connection

The Kodak P850 you could hear the zoom very loudly when played back on TV. Eliminated that one.

Canon S2 IS has only the built in flash. Does not have a hot shoe or place for external flash.

Me narrowing it down to this choice does not mean it is the camera you should choose because you may be looking for different abilities that will accommodate your needs better.

Hopes this answers your question about the list of cameras you mentioned. If you have any other questions please let me know.

If you have any interest in sometimes using the video feature I would make sure and try the camera and play it back on a TV to see how much the zoom shows up in the audio. You cannot play it back on the camera to tell because you only have access to the video and no audio.

As of right now the Kodak P880 gives me the most of what I am looking for.

    Re: Video

As with you, I was torn between all the features each one didn't have...My final decision came down to price and a slightly higher recommendation by Photo John, although he recommended all of them.
Having used a Kodak PS4330 for the past 3 years, I am very pleased with everything I ever shot and only have some nitpicky negatives about it. I'm sure that we will both be very happy with our choices....
Now a blatant advertisement...as Reviews Moderator...after you have used your camera for a short time...please post a review about it...I'd be very interested in reading about what I gave up!!! hahaha...
Happy Shooting...and don't forget to post some shots for us to see!!!

    Re: Video

Ken e-mailed me about the Nikon Coolpix 8400. I haven't used it, but I've handled all of the cameras and one of the biggest differences for me was build quality. The Nikon feels a lot more substantial than the Kodak. It also allows use of the Nikon hotshoe flashes which are arguably the best available. I know the Kodaks have hotshoes, but I''ve seen the flashes and I'm not too psyched about them. Not that they won't perform well, but they don't look or feel anywhere near as solid as the Nikon, Canon, Konica Minolta, Olympus, or Pentax flashes. You are very interested in the video feature and it seems like Kodak offers the most for you in that area. It really sounds to me like the P880 is the right camera for you. I'd like to get one for review, too. It looks like a good camera.

    Re: Video

John, I have a couple of Vivitar 283 flashes I planned on trying a little later down the road for special occasions. For most pictures the pop up flash will do and for something more important I will use my hand grip bracket with the Vivitar on. That way the flash will be away from the lens.

Thanks for your comments. One thing that everyone needs to checkout when buying a camera that will do video is to check and listen to the zooms noise during playback. The sound on the P850 Kodak just ruins the video, other than that its good.

The P880 has a manual zoom so there will be no sound to interfere with the video.

Hi, you had mentioned that someone in the family purchased the P850. Is the image quality good with this camera? I have a video camera so I won't be using the camera for anything but taking pics.
    Thanks

Yes it looks just fine and so does the video. If it wasn't for the zoom motor showing up in the audio that is the camera I would get.

Thanks again, now it's the final decision between the Panasonic FZ5 and the P850. Mind you the P880 does sound good, I think I'm one of those consumers that think the higher the megapixel the better.

Re: Comments on these nude photos I have

Barb 48, It is not an easy job trying to decide which camera to purchase. It would be nice if we could make a list of features that we would like to have and have a camera made that would meet all our needs. Choosing a camera that you will be happy with for awhile takes a lot of research. I am not in the position to recommend one camera over another but on my list of things my new camera must have is a connection for a external flash, be it a connector or at least a hot shoe. Depending on the type of pictures you will be taking in the future you may or may not need to be able to extend your flash range if it is needed. The Panasonic does not give you the option of shooting past the ability of the built in flash. Now for me that is a must because I do not want to be limited to ten or fifteen feet.

I am not trying to confuse you in your choosing a camera but I just wanted to point this out BEFORE you make your final decision. For me this would be a reason to eliminate the Panasonic. Each one of us has different needs and yours may be different but I just wanted to point out the flash ability if it makes a difference.

Re: Comments on these nude photos I have

Barb, as grandpaw was saying...there are a lot of factors to consider. I, like you, was really looking at the 12x zooms. I settled for the Nikon CP8400, because of it's features and the fact that I could get adapter lenses, to meet my need for "zoom". But there are many other fine zoom cameras. I was really interested in the P850 and only got the cp8400 after Ritz camera put it on excellent special. I got the camera, a 1gb 80x lexar and 2 day shipping for $526.00. Which is about the same price as I could have gotten the P850 by itself. It also had almost every feature I was looking for, except the zoom, and I can live with the movie limitation, since it is a very small portion of my photography.
Regardless of your choice...I think you'll be satisfied with which ever camera you choose.

Re: Comments on these nude photos I have

Grandpaw, you're right, for my shooting needs I don't need an external flash the built-in should be good enough, but I like the option there just in case. I like the big lcd screen, (these eyes aren't what they use to be LOL). I like the zoom for nature shots and the image stablization which comes with it. I was looking at the new Olympus but it didn't have image stablization, too bad.
One question I would like to ask the panel which is starting to confuse me. Question is about the size of megapixel in the camera. Someone was mentioning cropping, and the higher the megapixel the better for doing this. So the quesiton is should I be looking at higher than 5 or just stick with optical zoom of 10 or better. Is the question understandable?
    Thanks

Hi Barb...very simple really...the higher the mp...the better your crops will be, whether using a zoom or not. If you can afford it...go for the higher mps...a 3 mp camera prints out very nice 8x10's but, if I try to crop a small portion out of a pic and blow it up to 8x10 then it gets a lot of noise in it. Using a 10x or 12x "optical" zoom, you'll be able to get some very nice closein shots with little or now cropping, but if you plan on cropping...this will be another consideration for you.
    Hope this helps a little.

Re: Comments on these nude photos I have

I think the 5 megapix would work just fine. I believe if you pay attention to how you frame your pictures when you take them then the cropping shouldn't be that much of an issue. Generally the more times you mess with a picture the lower quality you will end up with.

I am a believer that you make every effort to get the original shot right and you won't have to spend a lot of time having to adjust and change what was taken later. This doesn't mean you may not want to crop occasionaly but it shouldn't be very often.

Let me mention one thing about only having the ability of the built in flash on the camera. To get the distance out of the flash that you do with a built-in flash your depth of field will be much less due to the F-stop needed to reach that far or a slower shutter speed or both. Stronger flash gives you more options even at the same distance.
