    Question choosing a camera

    hey
when a general consumer is buying a camera what are the main features you should look at that are best for a camera? (like zoom etc)
what are the general features that a buyer should look at when looking for a camera?
    thanks

    Re: choosing a camera

u have to decide what u want to do with the camera.. and to a certain extent what u want to pay for it..

i like long zoom cameras for example but they dont exactly fit in your pocket.. so we have something as simple as shape and size.. then we have the more expensive cameras so again we have something simple like price coming into it..

there really are no hard and fast rules except before u go looking for a camera first make up your mind what u want the do with it.. list your needs in an order of priorities then go looking..

zoom by the way should be optical zoom.. ignore the inflated claims when digital gets added to optical..

    hiya
it is not really what i want to do with it or how much i will want to pay.
this is because i am researching cameras for an assignment and was looking on camera websites however there is so much information and facts about each camera.
this is why i was asking what are the main features and main facts a consumer needs to know when buying a camera in general.
    all help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    Re: choosing a camera

i see.. the digital zoom being added to the optical making a 3 x optical into a 12 x zoom by adding a fake 4 x digital magnification factor in there.. this is more makers blurb than what the reviewers say.. is one thing to watch out for.. the other old chesnut would how many mega pixels the cameras as..

basically u kind of exaggerate the things that people think matter more than the things that do matter.. he he..

the real problem is that all consumer cameras in a given price range have become much of a muchness.. they all function in a similar manner.. the manufacturers have also done their research into what people want.. they have perhaps three basic categories.. sub miniature.. fit in your pocket .. and the long zoom look like a real cameras ones..

kodak for example push the easy to use factor.. the easy-share system

image stabiization is a good thing to have in a long zoom camera.. some have it some dont... thow soon all will..

the mega pixel factor some cameras have more of em than others.. folks believe this is of paramount importance even if it isnt..

can the camera mount an external flash.. again some can some cant..

he he.. i am trying to think how they still differ from each other.. its hard..

most of that information u are looking at is camera geek stuff the consumer dosnt need to know most of it.. by the way..
