But now I'm torn as to this camera or the Canon Digital Rebel. I've owned Canons in the past with great success and I like the variety of lenses for the Canons, but this camera looks pretty stacked as well.

Anyone have their hands on a D70 for a preview yet?

Spec-wise, it looks better than the Digital Rebel to me.

Wow, I want! Although it is still expnsive for me, I think I am gonna have to make an attemp to get one of these. Having a D70 and N80 in my bag would be nice.

One question, the kit lens that they are shipping with the body, is that a new lens or one already on the market? And if its already available, is it it worth it to get with the body?

The lens in the kit is new. From what I've read, it will only be available at first with the body, but as they give a price, it should be available separately later. I would certainly go for the kit. It give you the equivalent of a 28-105.

The D70 is certainly interesting, particularly the 1/500sec flash sync speed.

I have a D100 and was wondering how this camera compares. It seems like it has more features and does more than the D100 and is less expensive. Any comments?

Reponses Photo (French magazine) just published a test on a "99% final" D70. As there is probably no chance that the readers of this forum would go out and buy the magazine, here is their sum-up:

    Plus points:

    - reactivity (startup, shooting - just like a film SLR)
    - good images quality up to 400 ISO (improvement on D100)
    - improved shutter & metering

    Minus points:

    - disappointing viewfinder (but the D100 wasn't better)
    - controls a bit complex
    - autofocus slightly noisy (except with AF-S)
    - no USB2

If you already have a D100 then there probably aren't enough improvements to make it worthwhile changing to a D70.
