    Buydig is BAD

I bought a lens off of buydig. Or should I say they took my money for a lens and never shipped the lens. Now they say it is backordered, but never notified me of that fact. I bought it for a photo shoot I have coming up.

So they've had my money for a lens they say is in stock on their website and it's going to take almost a week to get my money back.

    This place is BADBADBAD!

Here is the link to the lens. STill says it is in stock and taking peoples money for it.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

That's really bad news. I don't know how these dealers manage to keep doing this to people. I had to return a p&s to J&R because it was defective - the lens kept sticking and would not zoom in or out without turning it off and starting again. After 3 weeks I finally got a credit - but I had to pay the shipping both ways......and insurance.

I hope you got something to use in the meantime.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

Jeta, I just emailed them inquiring whether the lens was in stock. I tried calling but they were closed by this time of the day. I'll post my results when I hear something. Their automated return email says it could take up to 24 hours for a response. This should be interesting.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

Sorry that happened to you Liz. Sheesh.

Mike, I'll be really curious what they say. I know when I order from Adorama or B&H if the product is backordered they tell me and I'm never charged until they have the product in hand.

I filed a complaint with Paypal today and within a few hours they started the process to refund my money.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

I just received a reply from their sales department. They did inform me that the item was not in stock but they hoped to restock within 30 days. I did ask them why their site said it was in stock. I also asked what they would have done had I ordered it online, as far as accepting my funds. I told them there are far too many companies out there accepting money for items they do not have in stock. I'll post their answer when I receive one.

Gosh, thanks for checking on this. I'd love to know why it STILL says "in stock".

Now they say it's 30 days out. They told me 1 1/2 weeks.

How long would they have sat with my money b4 notifying me? Places like this irritate me.

    In their defense

I am sorry you've had a bad experience from BuyDig. Every place has bad employees or misses things and I am sure Buydig is no exception.

I have purchased a lot of my equipment from them, and I have never had a problem. The worst that has happened to me is that recently they have started making the up-sale telephone call. I just started giving a wrong phone number.

Buydig were consistently in the top 5 e-tailers for customer satisfaction, you are actually the first person that has had anything bad to say about them on a BB. I have read a few bad experiences on Resellerratings though. Looks like ephotocraft was a good choice, I will have to look at their site. Edit: Buydig looks to have slipped on reputation a bit.

    Ephotocraft 9.78/10
    B&H 9.52/10
Buydig 8.40/10(that is quite a slip from their earlier reputation, maybe there is trouble there)
    Adorama 8.82/10
    J&R 6.04/10

    Re: Buydig is BAD

One of the reasons I bought from buydig was the feedback from this forum. I haven't read the other forums, but I'm the first one ever?

After the fact I read on different online rating sites. They do have a lot of bad feedback. Majority of it was good though.

I'm glad you've had good transactions with them. I guess people will only be bit if they continue to sell out of stock items as in stock.

Ephotocraft already shipped my lens and the shipping invoice says it will be here wed. I'll leave feedback on them once I have the lens in hand.

Now that's weird... I bought a speedlight from them back in december and it shipped quickly even though it was on backorder. You got unlucky.

I have never had any problems with Buydig. I've made 3 purchases of over $600 each. The items were new in box, well packaged, and delivered earlier than promised.

Don't let just one instance sway you from buying from them. This from the email sounds like an employee made a mistake and admitted to it.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

They were selling a lens as in stock that wasn't & taking money for it. Even when they finally told me it wasn't in stock they were still selling it as "in stock".

The bigger camera companies have been up front with me when things were not in stock. Like my Mark III. Adorama kept me up to snuff on exactly was going on. When the camera was shipped, then and only then did they take my money.

Buydig didn't refund my money until I filed a claim with Paypal.

The email wasn't to the person who already paid for the lens - it was to someone who hasn't yet parted with their money... Having to file a Paypal dispute based on what I'm reading here doesn't make for a good reputation. The first time someone called me for an upsell would be the last time I'd deal with them.

Any company can have a bad employee or two, but a conversation with a manager should be a good indication about what's really going on.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

Oh, I got the replies mixed up. Sorry.

I'll admit I too would be very upset if they charged my bank card for an out of stock item and I'd be on the phone complaining and also write it up on this forum.

But my point I was trying to make was they didn't deserve to be on the bad list.

Thanks for listening and I'm sorry you did have a problem with them.

Question.....is Buydig the same as Beach Camera? I thought I read that somewhere a while back, but couldn't figure out how to verify it. At any rate, Beach Camera has 2 names that they use and somehow unless you know it, they are not connected.

    Thanks.

I believe they are associated at least, if not the same company.

The web pages are almost identical. The "About Us" link contains identical information as well as the prices and items available being identical and that would indicate they were the same company.

    Re: Buydig is BAD

I recently got a phone call from Buydig about this transaction. They offered me a free filter to get me to buy from them again. The gentleman on the phone was very nice. I'm an odd duck because I never feel good about taking something for free like that so I declined.

Then the rep made a reference about me complaining on the Internet about this transaction. I didn't appreciate him putting me on the spot like that. The whole thing was so weird and it just reaffirmed to me that my decision to never buy from them again is the right one.

As far as ordering from a company that I have had a bad experience from I would have to totally agree that I would not order from them again either.

Now to the reason they are on the recommended list. I did some research and found that in some places on the Internet that the contact number for Buydig and Beach Camera are the same telephone number which means they have something to do with each other. I have read the rating on Buydig and there are a lot of VERY SATIFIED reviews listed. There are even more VERY SATISFIED customers for Beach Camera.

The day after Thanksgiving 2007 I personally placed an order with Beach Camera for a Nikon D80 and other equipment. All were sent very quickly with Nikon warranties, all packaged well and exactly what I had ordered and at agreat price. I didn't get any pressure and the salesman was knowledgeable and helpful. I had a very positive experience with them and received everything just as ordered and in the time frame I was given. I just want to make it clear that I do not just put sites on either list without doing some research first. Does this mean that the lists are perfect and 100% correct, no they are not. But what it does mean is that I have gotten input from different sources before placing them on the list they are on. These lists are there only as a guide line and starting place when you are looking for information before placing an order. I would highly suggest reading as many of the threads here you can from everyone, both good and bad before placing an order with anyone.

I would like to add that I do not know or have anything to do personally with anyone on the sites no matter which list they appear on, Jeff

I have zero problems if buydig is on your recommend list. We all have to make our own informed decisions on who to buy from. That's why posting our experiences here are so important. My transaction was HORRIBLE with Buydig and then they call me to complain about my post here under the guise of a free filter...... I'm just one person who was NOT SATISIFIED and I'm glad nobody else had as much problem as me. Moral of the story here is if you buy from them call and make sure they haven't just taken your money for an out of stock item. If they have post about it and you may get a free filter out of the deal.
