Be Alert- People trying to fake Cameta Auctions.

My fellow PRers, I've noticed something disturbing this weekend.

I was browsing ebay and I saw an auction for a brand new USA model Nikon D2H, worded exactly like a Cameta Camera auction title. The subtitle had the usual Cametaauctions 200k+ pos feedback. I noticed a small discrepancy- the currency was in italics on the search page. I opened it up and it was in Australian dollars. I then saw that this person was Faking a Cameta Auction! The photos were copied, and while the exact internal layout was not perfectly copied, it's enough that most people wouldn't notice a major discrepancy.

The seller was an australian ebayer with only 65 feedback and no activity in months- possibly a hijacked account.
I contacted ebay and the person responded they did not find sufficient evidence. I've replied and informed them they obviously didn't bother to read the auction title. It's impersonating another ebayer. I'm writing to Cameta today.

So PLEASE double check and make sure if you're buying from Cameta that it's one of their actual auctions.

I'll update you all if action is taken.

Thanks for the heads up Harrison  I would definitely write Cameta if I were you. They are way too big of a seller on Ebay. I'm sure if they approach Ebay about it there's no way Ebay won't take action.

Cameta has been a highly respected ebay seller for years - I'm sure this con artist knows that, too. Interesting to see what happens, but thanks for the heads up.

Great heads up! I have bought two cameras from Cameta and been very pleased I would hate to see their reputation get dirt on it form some low life impersonating them. Thanks Harrison.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??
