Took this yesterday after we got 14 inches of snow to top off what we already had on the ground. I kinda wish I had a blue sky behind it, but I think the gray works here, especially to contrast the bright red of the barn. I just wish I could get the darn dumpster out of the shot!

I like the red barn against the snow too and also agree a strong blue sky less the dumpster would be perfect...but it is still a good shot!

You may be able to remove the dumpster in PS

Thanks guys. I'm still trying to figure out the whole cloning thing in PS, so until then I guess the dumpster will have to stay.
Actually, cold isn't the look I was going for, but I guess it has that feel (it was actually like 40 degrees out!).

It sounds almost contradictory: "rich rolors on the white." I know what you mean though. I think that is one of the hardest things with today's SLR's is adjusting for the bright white of snow. That, and using film... you can never be 100% certain of what you're going to get.

CaSousa i did a little PS for you to show you how it would look without the dumpster, did one with a door the other without .Take into consideration that this was done in under 10 minutes , now you will be able to C what it looks like with the dumpster removed. :)

Nice job on this photo...I really like the barn against the grey sky. A blue sky may take away from the barn and make it less vibrant, but would love to see a shot anyway ;)

I will try to send you a PM or even post it here on how it did it , im glad you liked it :)

I posted instuction`s here, because maybe someone else can add something or better explain.
But if its not a proper place for this maybe a Forum Admin could direct us to it and also move my post.

1 ) First step would be to open your image in PS.
2 ) Then i would use the zoom tool & zoom into the area that you wish to work with.
3 ) Then go to your tool bar & choose the CLone Stamp Tool, just hover your mouse over the tools and the names will appear.
4 ) Usualy it will give you a circle wich is very big to work with this is your Clone Stamp Tool, you have to adjust it to the size your gonna need , to do this look under the title bar were you have File & next to it Edit then Image ,you should have your clone stamp & next to it you should have brush size then choose a smaler brush , lets say 5px.
5 ) Now that you have a Clone Stamp with a brush size your ready to start cloning.
6 ) Go to your image with your Clone Stamp , now you must press your ALT key on your KeyBoard and hover your mouse over any area of your image your Clone tool should change to a target symbol ,once you have clicked on a area let go of the ALT key and your Stamp tool should return .
7 ) Now just move your mouse to were you want to begin .
8 ) Press your left button on your mouse and hold it pressed ,move your mouse in a direction you want the clone to start you should C the image of your target being reproduced under your mouse curser. Change your target as many times as needed to reproduce the image you want to clone using step (6) Play around with it till you get the feel of it .
9 ) Always save your work to a different name ex: gibbet hill barn1.1.jpg then you will always have the original if its needed.

PS. I did not use PS to do my editing i used PhotoImpact by Ulead , but the steps i gave you were used in Photoshop CS.
Hope this helps you ,Also experiment with different brush sizes even diff brushes. :)

Chris, this is a nice image and the dumpster does not bother me at all. I like the gray sky and that barn is very interesting in that it almost has a human quality about it with those windows looking like eyes on a face. I would have prefered to have included the entire barn in the scene, but still nice for the other good elements here.
