I was on my balcony having a few beers with my GF when I saw a plane approaching. I decided to try & shoot it . By the time I got my Cam ready it was almost dissapearing. It was gettin blocked by the top of my balcony which comes out totally black in the top right side of the photo.
Across the street their was construction of a new building going on and hence the Big Construction crane. At first I was dissapointed for the balcony's interference but after I saw the shot I came to appreciate it for what it was, something different. :)

I think this works and I don't know why; maybe it's the beers! Thankfully the plane is very clear. The balcony is a very impotrant part of the setup. It's very attractive and I'm sure a full size print would be very dramatic. It's a simple and curious photo; the type I like.

Hi I like the lines in this shot and the angles you have achieved. As already said the roof is important. It may have been better if the roof was sharper,

Have you got what I think is termed vignietting in the corners? I think this adds to the composition.

Yeah I agree with Roger, the vigenetting does add the the composition. I like it, it's a very "clever" sort of photo.

Was this taken with a Fuji S5000 by any chance? The vigenetting looks familiar! ;)

Though I do like the balcony a tighter crop would be nicer. The balcony right now almost takes up TOO much space in the picture. But overall a nice affect with the vingetting and well done under the circumstances.

I like this pic, too. I think the problem is, if you don't know it's a balcony you're gonna wonder what's goin' on. The graphic quality is appealing, though.
Here's a tighter crop so we can compare.
The saturation in the sky is intense and the black on blue is very eye-catching.

Funny thing that sometimes you really don't know what your gonna get when you press the shutter. It almost looks like the plane is about to fly past the horizon of the earth. That thought makes for a mighty tall crane though. Anyway, the shots kind of neat.

Thnx :D

Yeah the dark area (the balcony) is an important part of this shot. To me it looked like a space ship leaving earth in a way, its just one of those wierd shots that I just become to love.

Crappy cameras are the ones that usually give the best vignetting.
Vignetting has its place IMO.

While I like the suggestion of a closer crop, I think it loses the balance between the black & blue. For instance in the example JK showed the black looks more of a mistake than a planned effect. Of coarse I didn't plan mines either but it just looks more balanced. lol. I can't really explain what I mean.

Thnx all

I agree. I like the uncropped version better also. Looks like outer space.
