Taken a few weeks ago from Newfound Gap Road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The trees in the higher elevations were covered with hoar frost and it was 18 degrees F when I shot this.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I hear the mountains calling me! This view looks like one of our normal hikes. Blue sky looks good also. I'm appointing you as photographer of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Wow! Nicely done.

The only thing though, it needs a little more drama. :D It just looks too bland or not striking enough for such a great shot. I don't know what it is. It just looks greyed out. Maybe a tad bit more contrast and saturation? Sorry, I can't pin point exactly why I feel so drawn to this great pic but yet feel it needs that one missing element that would make it that much clearer & more beautiful.

There is something graceful and very serene here and I like it very much. I can almost hear the silence emanating from the place. I love the trees in the bottom left corner and the way they become increasingly taken over by the fog as you move into the picture. Terry is right about the sky but it does not detract too much.

This is one of my favorite places to go for experimental landscape shooting.

Leels.........Thanks for your honest feedback. This shot is really what I was seeing that day.
No sun light.......Hoar frost in the trees, which gives you basically a B & W feel.
As for drama........you'll not find it here, unless you let a bear sneak up on you...HA

It's a very nice shot, Scott. i'd love to go to the smokies.
I think I'd crop so there's just a sliver of sky and up the contrast a little bit. It's just a bit too flat.
If you can get back(sounds like you can - lucky) I'd zoom in on the cleft of those first two ridges (see attached). Some nice texture in there.

Good shot , Scott. I like the compostion on this. Great mood. I agree with the sky comment and possiblt desaturating it some and a bit darker might help it from making the rest of the shot look too flat.

Hello Scott....I haven't been over in critique for a looooong time. I love the photo, great view, and I bet the sound was fantastic......silence. I personnally find these shots hard to do. They can be so vast and sometimes a picture doesn't do it justice. I always go through a dilema as to shoot the whole thing or just smaller pieces of it, for the detail. I understand the coloring, because we just went through about a month of colorless days. Which brought me to another question...do you take the picture for what it is or create color/contrast in hopes that it will brighten it up. Oh, the choices. The only comment I can think to make is, IMO (which isn't the greatest) would be to try and get a little more detail in the forground. We call that frozen fog pogonip and it is beautiful up close. I would like to see more if you have anymore.

And to answer your question........On these landscape shots, I do shoot them for what they are and sometimes try to improve the contrast and the color if it doesn't take away from what I was actually seeing. I hope that was what you were asking.

The shot truly gives a feeling of cold and quietness. However, I find the sky colour a bit unnatural. All in all, great shot.
