It's been a while since I've posted, and it was a while ago that I took this shot. I like it, but I think the DOF is too shallow. Wanted to know what you guys thought....

I actually find the dof in this photo fascinating :D . Their is a lot of symbolism there, depending on who you are. If you could make the dof field just a bit shallower, it might heighten the effect. I like this photo, mostly for the dof on the nails. Do you mind if I mess with it a bit?

The DOF doesnt bother me at all. I think it would help if the lighting was even all the way across the pic. Burning edges, etc. will help. Maybe a little less contrast for a few more mid tones.

I have to agree with Dzerzhinkski here. The symbolism here, if your somewhat religious, is very strong. That's what I take from it atleast. If that second closest nail was just a tad more sharper and in focus I think that would add just a great aspect, but very well done in black and white.

I just wanted to pop in a say that I think the DOF is helping this photo a lot. If it was too deep them I think our eyes would go right out the top of the photo. As it is, it's a very strong composition. I like the harsh lighting. Even in black and white I get a sense of heat and can imagine the heat from the nails if I pulled on them. It reminds me of growing up in the desert.

The first thing I thought of was the symbolism, too. Some of the shadows make crosses of some of the nails. I might try to simplify the image a little through a crop to make it more powerful.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Words, especially to describe feelings are not one of my strengths. I felt something about this image's symbolism too but couldn't put it into words, (and still cant :))...
