i am a proud owner of a canon s500...recently on a trip to vegas..i cracked the lcd screen.

thing is, i never dropped it or bashed hard it anywhere..it was in my jacket pocket the entire time. the crack is on the right side of the lcd..and it looks as if it was caused by a bend/dent in the outer shell.

the camera is still under the manufacturer's 1yr warranty..and im wondering if the repairs are covered by it?

most likely not covered under warranty. my S330 cost $250 to get a new LCD installed about 2 years ago...

Are you sure it is the LCD cracked and not just the covering over the LCD its self.

You know, same thing happened to my cell phone, but I had insurance on that, thank God! I assume you didn't get an extended warranty? See, that is why I buy my stuff at Best Buy or Sears - under their warranties, I can get a brand new product or something equivelent to the price. When my old palm pilot (i'm talking plastic black and white style palm and paid $250 for it at the time) broke, I had a 4 year extended warranty through sears. I ended up getting store credit for $250 which bought me a brand new palm M505 and a DVD player for my TV! lol Those extendeds are well worth the money!
