My friends were taking the jet skis out of the water just before dark. I thought the colors were to beautiful to leave without giving it a shot. Taken at F2.3, 1/30 with some cropping. What do you think?

When I first saw the post, I expected something brighter, more colors, more vibrant.
Then I saw your image, and it first came out VERY dark. My eye was caught though, and I kept looking at the image. "Night Vision" kicked in, and the image started to get clearer, more details came out, and I swear, the color seemed to start to change. It turned into an image that was quite pleasant to look at, and get a warm feeling of being there with.

However, I feel that others may not actually wait to see the image. Without comprimising it, see if it can be lightened up a bit to add a bit more contrast to it. I'm not talking repainting the skies, but just a bit of difference. Hopefully, the same feeling can be gotten.

On my monitor the photo does not appear to be too dark. However, I thought it would be a good adeal to add some brightness/contrast and look at it again to see if the feeling is still there. I can live with both photos.

Maybe it was just my monitor, but I feel that the adjustments you made on the second image are great. Very subtle, not meant to repaint everything, but at least on my monitor, it does make a large enough difference. The second image captured my eye right away, and I was able to see some things I missed with the first one. It still comes across as a very warm, inviting photo. Thanks for putting up with the rants.

After tossing this photo back and forth in my mind, I sort of wanted to see what it would look like with the subject being the colorful sky and its reflection. And the other things as silhouettes. I hope you don't mind!

I really like the photo, and I think Scott's adjustment makes it even better. I might have wanted to crop the bottom to take out the shoreline, leaving just the dock coming out into the picture and giving more weight to the sky. But the two oversymmetrical shrubs would have to be removed as well, so no dice.

Either way, a nice shot.

I must admit, I have not looked at a lot of my photos to see if I could touch them up a little and make them have a different feel or make them more appealing to the eye. This forum is a great place to gain knowledge and insight from several others that share the same hobby.
