I had to work all day Saturday, but Karen and I left for the Eastern Sierras/Mono Lake on Saturday night.

We got to eastern side around 2 a.m., and got up 4 hours later. We drove south until we found a place for sunrise, and this is what I came up with.

I was happy to get something like this, and happy that we took the risk. This area is incredible and I recommend it very much.

I took this about a hour later when we went down a closed road for a couple of miles.

Great shots Loren. I passed through there a couple of years ago after a ski trip in Mammoth. I took some photos with my G1, but the color and contrast was awful, even after extensive photoshopping. It's nice to see what can be done with a daylight scene when the photographer knows what he/she is doing. Thanks for sharing.

Looking forward to a weekend away myself, been awhile! Really like the first shot, lots of depth to it with the sun coming thru the clouds in different places. Ever been to Bishop, where Galen Rowell's gallery is?

Thanks Leon, it was just a nice drive and the pictures were a plus. It was my first time in this area so it was worth not having much sleep. Plus, we found a casino/hotel that had $5.00 for a steak and egg breakfast.

Yummy

I plan on going back in the middle of November to see Bodie, and then head down to Bishop. I want to see Galen Rowel's gallery too.

See you this weekend!

I very much enjoy the mood and "coldness" captured in the first photograph. Very interesting and simple composition. Great work Loren. I've never been in this area either. Steak and Eggs sure does sounds good right now :) Seems like it would go perfect with that sunrise.
