Well, being that you guys know a heck of a lot more about photo editing, I thought I might show you guys this picture and see what you guys can do or suggest. I am trying to edit these using my basic programs: HP Image Zone and the Nikon View/Nikon Editor. I took this picture and many others at tonight's Kerry rally in Miami. Unfortunately, the fact that I was taking pictures with no tripod, full optical and 2-4x digital zoom most of the time didn't help the focus.
Any pointers/assistance?

I don't think you can salvage that image. You could however isolate Kerry and use him for something else. Like an art project.

My real advice would be to buy photoshop.

We have photoshop at school......I have a few others that came out a bit better and I've had some more success with the editing programs and they're coming out a lot better. My printer has a weird thing that you can set that is something like 'focus correction' that i'm going to try out (photosmart 7260).
I can't help it if the party I like happens to choose a friggin halloween icon for their candidate, but hey, it's better than not having anyone to photograph from a thousand feet away....
