Not at all an original Composition, but I always liked how these beautiful yellow flowers looked with the blue sky and clouds in the backdrop. This is my attempt. Comments always appreciated

It is a good image Gary.
The placing of the flower off center was a good choice.
The contrasting colors work well too.
My only nit pick, is that the image seems to have cyan cast to it.
Could be my monitor?

If it is your monitor it's my calibrated TFT too...

I added a quick warming filter in Photoshop and it made it look better to me, although I'm positive there's a better way to remove the cast.

Hi Gary. It might be cliche, but it's successful! The composition is great and I like the little leaf dangling from the main flower.

As for the color, this is indeed an issue. I got quite a nice resiult by dropping the cyan saturation to -90% and the green saturation to -40%...

Hey! I also have some sunflower pics somewhere... maybe we could start a thread :D !

Cheers,

Steph.

Good shot! I want to add that I like how you can see the leaves to a tree in the bottom right hand corner... i like that element, because it " grounds" it.
Didn't notice the cyan until it was pointed out, then found it in the leaf.

Never too many Flowers!

I'd say your right about the cyan cast and did not notice it till you pointed it out. Here is a somewhat cyan-reduced version. Does it appear to be corrected?

Thank you all for the time to comment. And Clicker, glad you pointed out the trees leaves in the right corner. I like it there for the reasons you pointed out and was wondering if anyone would have an opinion on it.

o.k. I'm a sucker for sunflowers--I agree with clicker about the elements grounding it and I really just enjoyed how vibrant this shot was...only spot that tweaks my eye is the little bright spot on the stem....

nice--pleasing image..aaahhhh

Cheers,

Steph.

Very nice angle u took on this. I like the (slightly) color adjusted pic better, for it seems more natural. Sunflowers do have something magical thing about them, probably being the large size and their primary/secondary colors, esp against a blue sky!

Hey Gary,
I Love the way you captured the blue sky from above while at the same time giving the flower some good height. Great shot as usual...

Great photo .... at first I thought a little cropping would do good ..... but loosing the "grounding leaves" wouldn t be good ... I agree. Love the touch of cross processing appearance Cheers

Nice shot Gary, I like the angle. ;)

There is not that much cyan color cast at all in image #1. It's just an illusion. Sample the brightest white in the sky and you'll notice only a slight cast with a value of 14. Correct it to let's say 2 (there always has to be some cast to make a shot look natural) and you will only notice a slight difference but then only if you put them side by side.

The #2 image might look better, but that was not the result of a cyan correction, but more because of a lightness and saturation correction. Actually #2 has too much magenta in it.

For those people who prefer slightly over saturated colors (and for some unexplainable reason there are lots of them) in combination with a slight contrast increase a correction like in #2 looks like an improvement.
Expensive DSLRs however don't make a lot of mistakes when it comes to saturation; it's all about a personal preference. But does #2 look more natural like someone said? No, I really don't agree.

Thanks for your time to comment. Yes, I added a bit more magenta while pulling out some cyan . I agree with your comment on to much saturation going on these days digital days. Its so easy now to just play with a slider or two and heavily up contrasts and colors, thus appearing at first to look better . But too much starts looking artificial and cartoonish. I don't feel it looks more natural either, just may "appear" to be clearer. I just felt that this particuliar image with it's pop-art style was a good candidate for the "popping" colors effect. Thanks again
