Also maybe focus on the gun....leaving the body unfocused.

What is up with the suicide images around these parts?!? Is it supposed to be "dramatic" or expressive? Is the concept supposed to be interesting?

Honestly, what are you attempting to accomplish here?

These sort of images don't appeal to me...simply becaus ethey are too obvious...too blatant in there message. i prefer subtlety in an image(like the suggestion of getting the gun crisp in focus and having the girl out of focus...artistry and vison aside...technicalities---I like the composition, I think the concept needs to be toyed with a bit more, and the image lacks any punch or depth to it. hope you don't mind here's my take on it....

unsharp mask selective burning, tighter crop, converted to RBG and adjusted levels...

reshoot(no pun intended) and see what you come up with provided that tyou actually shot her and now you need a new model ;)

Thanks for all of your help. For your information, I am a student and my project was to mimic a photographer in subject matter, but not in style. I, obviously chose WeeGee.

Thanks for the help, and here's another for the hell of it.

Now, IMO, this is a good photograph. It took me a while to get it, but when I did I was both shocked and, this sounds silly, but proud of myself. I've auto levelled it below (sorry if you mind) but I think it looks more striking:

I'm not going for the overwrought suicide thing, I just like the story.

Interesting photo, I like what Nat did, More contrast/crop..

I know it was just an assignment, but someone has to shoot the pictures for the Teen Angst / Teen Suicide Pamplets!!!

Also, thanks for introducing me to "weegee" i Googled him and will be returning to that page!

Oh, and welcome to PR! Hope you are able to get POSITIVE, honest and helpful pointers!

Thanks for all your help and opinions, and Nat/Hind, thanks for taking the time to help make the picture more attractive. I am still a newb photographer, and don't quite yet understand how to adjust things such as hue, contrast saturation etc. but I think taking time to listen, and letting the information I'm gathering off you guys to soak in, I'll pick it up in no time.

Apparently, it wasn't obvious enough for me! I thought "Can't wait" meant she was in a hurry, tripped on the stairs, and that was her mp3 player in the foreground. Geez, what self-respecting American doesn't recognize a GUN when she sees one? Ha ha, must be my time living in Canada...

I'm sorry, I have no real critique to offer of this image, other than to point out some people (OK, me) just don't get it sometimes. :)

PUT THE GUN IN HER BLOODY HAND is my suggestion

Suicide SUCKS, but it is an evil side of life that we must deal with.

BTW.. my friend blew his head off with a 9mm 3 MONTHS AGO.... VERY UNCOOL THING TO DO to those left behind!!!!!

i couldn't agree more. its is an amazing, yet terrible thing, and you displayed it well. i too lost a very close friend, and i am still in shock and angered 4 years later...this shot brings me back to that time somewhat, although this hand gun would be replaced with a 12 gauge...we must never forget life, and how quickly it can be taken away, never to return...
