The PhotoPlus Expo is coming up in NY again and I was wondering if anyone is going. If you are we should all wear some color or something else to signify that we are Photography Review people. It could be fun to see someone in the crowd and wonder who the person is, if they come to this site, or if it is just coincidence. PJ are you going? I'm the guy that bought you lunch a number of years ago. I'll make the same offer. If you want to meet at the food court area again lunch is on me. Maybe pizza after. The last time you said you had a T shirt for me but you forgot it. Maybe something like that could happen this time. :) Hint Hint. I think this show might be a good one.

I probably will be going. Usually there is a dinner meeting either Sat or Sun night but some people seem to meet at other times.

I had a dream last night that I was going to NY but I couldn't figure out why...

I got to the Lincoln Tunnel before it hit me: I havne't the slightest idea why I'm here!

I may be able to go... keep us posted

p.s. Which part of Richmond? I'm working off River Rd near Gaskins recently.

My plant in Morristown NJ closed down and I transfered here about a year ago. I have had a lot of turmoil and travel for about a year and a half and I haven't been here as much as I used to during that time. I live by Chippenham Parkway and Route 10. This is south of Gaskins and on the other side of the river. This show in NY was always great until the tragic events of 9/11. Then the show tailed off for a couple years. I dont know if this show coming on the heals of Photokina will be good but I think it might be. I'll be there Fri and Sat and fly home on Sun. Your dream sound like an omen that you need to go! Lots of toys to see and a fortune to spend! Maybe a pizza party after the show. I miss good pizza and bagels.

I'm still learning Richmond, too. One thing I can say - it's a lot slower pace than up here in Northern VA! Thank gosh. Everyone seems pleasant enough. Though I find I'm fairly outnumbered as a liberal non-drinking tree-hugger down there :D LOL

I went to the NY photo show last year with my then-girlfriend. We met up with Megan, Natalie, the Bowhays, Mig, Gerry, Sandee, and... (who am I fogetting) and had pizza later. It was a blast :) I'm talking myself into going this year... I better stop.

Hope luck finds you down there in Richmond. I'm finding a lot of photographic opportunity on the James and Charlottesville and the Appalachians are only an hour west.

I got an email about it the other day. They gave me a code for free tickets so if anyone wants to go, please message me :)

I attended last year and it was OK - only OK. I attended some seminars and didn't feel that I got my money's worth so this year, if I go, I will probably not attend any seminars.

Cutting to the chase here, I was semi-seriously thinking of showing up early on one of the days, sniffing around for a while, and then heading out into the big, bad city of New York for some street shooting. Anyone game? All we need to do is pick a day.

I just may be able to make this one........I'm hoping to have a new secretary before then so I can get away from the office more often.

BTW, I love your avatar! Very nice. :)

I'm in a wedding party/photographing same wedding on Halloween weekend [he proposed on Friday the 13th - I love this couple!], and the bachelorette party is that weekend. I think it's that Saturday night. I can't commit to anything or organize, but if someone else plans gatherings, I will definitely try to make some aspect of it.

Liz,
Not that I know of so far, but I'm open to whatever is going on. Maybe I can persuade Mr. Hess to get his butt there?

Sorry guys, I won't be able to make it this year. But if people are going, I really recommend you try to get together for dinner. Meeting other community members rules! And I'd love to be a part of it all, via your photos.

Also, if any of you are taking digital cameras to the show, I'd love it if you'd take pictures. If anyone wants to commit, I'll make a special gallery for the show and any gathering-related photos.

My reading of posts to here tells me that, at this point, we have very few attendees and no definite plans. Is that correct?

C'mon folks. After all, it's just a big bazaar where a bunch of sales types are going to try to sell you things that you can't afford. We've got to be able to improve on that.

I was at the EXPO Sat for a few hours. I am totally an old world traditional photographer but I was impressed with the output of digital printing. Some of the stuff was really beautiful. Even the B&W stuff was well done. But don't worry I'm not going over to the "light side" and will continue getting my hands wet in the darkroom. <p> I picked up a photography book, Salgado's "Migrations" for half price at the Aperture booth. A huge book of about 300 or so photographs. In a separate booklet he has a paragraph or two telling the story for every print. A very moving book. I spent about 3 hours with it yesterday and I still haven't fully recovered from the impressive images.
