I think I'd like to see the flag attached to the pole.

I can see why you'd say that. However, I like it without the whole flag. Even though the flag pole is the object in focus, my subject was the sky.

Although, I'm already finding it hard to be even a little objective about my own photos, hehe.

I like it, though having the image rotated right and still the flagpole is angled right too makes it a little disturbing for me. That and the flag not attached to the flagpole is great.
Using those odd angles, and the space around the flag works for me.
It takes an ordinary view off the boat and makes it more interesting.
