I've been given a $3000 budget to buy a dv for serious outdoor work.

lots of dust and dirt, any suggestions on cameras w/ weatherproof features?

How about a Sony DSR-PD170 with accessory wide angle, plenty of batteries and adaptable chargers and finally a good carry bag and rain hood from Porta-Brace. They supply an awful lot of gear to the broadcast market. A decent kicker light and tripod would also be a great idea.
