A new grandson for us.
A new D70 to photograph him with.
I like the look of high speed colour and even with digital I find the colour very different at ISO 200 as compared to ISO 1600.

I read so many negative comments about some aspects of the D70 I almost gave up on it.
Very glad I didn't.
If this camera has any serious flaws I haven't found them yet.
I could never get this kind of quality out of ISO 1600 film.
The learning curve has not been to bad.
The only thing I miss is the fact that none of the metering modes work with manual lenses.
I have to accquire all new telephoto lenses as mine were all manual.
Also needed is a new flash, my older ones only work in the Auto or Manual mode.
I have found the performance to be beyond my expectations.

We ended up buying a D70 just to photograph him.

...my sis gave me a 28mm, 85 or is it 80(?)mm and a 105mm...and I was pretty ticked to find NOTHING not even the flash working on manual mode with manual lenses...the good is that you get the satisfaction of pretending that you have a manual SLR but with the super bonus of seeing how badly you screwed up the shot and having the satisfaction of quickly fixing it.

:D At least that would hold true for me...lol

Sssshhhh I love to shoot at 1600 because the noise is so minimal and the colors are oh so tasty...saturated and lovely...I love this camera and I may never have a love afair as lovely as this one. ;)

It's been a while.

Love affairs come in many forms.
Photography and it's associated equipment is one form.
Off the many cameras I have owned and used and they number in the dozens this has to be my favourite. It is a neat, nifty, well put together camera and even the kit lens is not to be sneezed at.
It never fails to thrill me when I see the results and of course the possible combinations and variations possible make it a surprise every time you try something new.
I got myself a new/used lens today.
A number of years ago, about the time of the Nikon F4 the company made and marketed an AF 70-210 f4 Zoom lens.
Old style, with slow AF, by todays standards, but it's size and performance make it a very nice addition to the kit lens to help round out your gear list. It is not much bigger around then the kit lens and about twice the length and weighs about 24 onces or just about 1/2 the weight of the 80-200 f2.8.
With the kit lens and this one you cover the equivlent of 28mm to 315mm in 35mm terms.
Not bad for two lenses. The performance is very similiar to the 18-70.
Now for a new flash.
Enjoy your D70, it will outperform you for a while yet.

Congratulations on your new grandson. He is absolutely beautiful. You and your wife must be so thrilled. Does he live around you? I hope he's a frequent family visitor.

New life comes in different forms. For you, it's a double portion. Your new grandson, of course, brings new life to everyone in your family. Your camera is already giving you some "new life" as you have commented here. I'm so happy that you're enjoying the D70. I've seen some awesome images from that camera. If I didn't have a Rebel and those awesome Canon lenses, I would have been tempted by Nikon's creation of the D70.
