View Full Version : Hard time getting away from graphics

I guess the last 15 years in the graphics industry has swayed my photographic style.

Rather than just sit around with the other parents waiting for our daughters to finish soccer practice I cruised over to the skate park for some shooting. Unfortunately, the skaters and bmxers don't like rolling the last 30 minutes of daylight since the setting sun blinds them. But after the sun went down they started laying down some big air. But my D80 was struggling to catch the action (even wide open on my 80-200 f2.8). But I got a couple of fun shots using the last of the sunlit sky to give the riders cool silhouettes. My daughter wanted me to do some cool effects like the one I did last week (and print it poster size so we can hang it up in the living room.

So here it is:

Wow, you did a really nice job.

Can I ask why software you use?

Photoshop CS2 -- it's pretty easy actually.

1. Open your image.
2. Open an image that you'd like to use with the master. Select all. Cut.
3. Paste on top of Master image, stretch to fit. Add an effect like color burn, or linear burn or what ever style you'd like You can even mask areas and only apply the effect selectively etc.

Some images work really well, some don't. I have a collection of background stock that I've acquired over the years on the web, from Corel Graphics Suite clipart collection, and some of the cheap photo clip art collections etc to use. It is pretty neat.

Matt, that is fantastic. It looks like something straight out of a Fox apparel catalog. And I don't think you have to worry about your method... the execution is what takes the talent!

It's too bad the soccer season is nearing the end. I went back this afternoon and got a few more shots. It was much busier and I got there a bit earlier sore some more daylight shots. It's fun shooting the skate boarders and bmxers of all ages.

Very cool images. Some of us old war horses are very limited when it comes to this kind of imaging, it just blows us away to see someone take a standard photo and turn it into poster art like this. Job well done.
