Went out on a photo trip the other day looking for more Chuckwallas, but found this friendly guy instead.

I had the camera set to -1/3 ev, but the rocks still look a bit over exposed to me. I think I need to get over to the sunny side of the lizard, rather than shooting on it's shadowed side...

All c&c welcome...

Taken with a Sony A700, 18-200 kit lens...

(edit- the last shot was taken by the guy in the 2nd shot, photo credit goes to him)

wow the few collard lizards ive seen have always ran anytime id be anywhere close to them... i only ever got 1 good shot. can't imagine catching one, and being able to pose it for shots... that would be phenominal.

nice shot though

We shot Chuckwallas the week before, and kind of had a trial run of how to sneak up on them. All we did, was move v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. He'd let us get within arms reach of him and pose for us. At one point, there was this flying bug on a bush between the lizard and myself, and I swore he was going to lunge for it. I was so hoping to get a shot of him striking and catching a meal...

The kid I was with is a lizard fan, and he's got mad lizard catching skills. Last week he cought a chuckwalla, but them guys are pretty painful to hold. they are way strong and have long sharp claws...

Thanks.

Cool creature!

Unless you use a reflector (not good for skittish critters) or fill flash, you've got to expose for either the shadows or highlights at the compromise of the other. So I think you did well.
