I know that I may be able to find this in the manuals, but I am hoping there is a Nikon wizz out there that can help me. I have a Nikon D300 and a SB 600. I can get the the SB 300 to work wireless with the on camera flash, but I borrowed a SB800 from a buddy and was trying to get the 800 and 600 with one on the camera and one in the background, could not get them to work together, any ideas?

You can either use the Nikon CLS system, and put the 800 on camera, set it to Commander, and then set the 600 as a remote slave. I don't have my flashes in front of me otherwise I'd walk you through how to do it. That would allow you to control the power of the 600 from your camera.
You could also put the 600 on camera, and set the 800 to SU-4 mode. You'll have to control the power manually from the 800 if you go that route. Check with your manuals, they'll show you how to set them up properly.
