View Full Version : I Shoot Horizontal! Old Timer 04-24-2008, 04:17 AM Well I should have said I shoot horizontal when I'm shooting the high jump. brhitch 04-24-2008, 05:28 AM Larry, nice set of images. I think I like the last one best. The second one is nice too but I wish he would have turned his head towards you. BFiredup 04-24-2008, 05:35 AM Every one of these rock....yes it would have been nice to see the faces on all of these shots....but that is not controlable.... "Mommy Factor".....if I couldn't find one that showed my son's face....I would purchase any one of these....Excellent quality and sharpness....nice and close.... retroactiv 04-24-2008, 06:11 AM There you go, think outside the box ;) . These are great looking, I agree it would be great to get the faces but we are only can shoot what we are given. Old Timer 04-24-2008, 06:21 AM Larry, nice set of images. Thanks Brian as you can see I changed positions for this shot and got the sun behind me. It made for better lighting on the subject but was much more difficult to get a face shot. Thus the late trip of the shutter on this one. Many times when I am shooting youth sports with sales in mind I will shoot what I would describe as static images. They may be of a fielder just getting into a defensive stance or a batter before the pitch is delivered. The purpose is to get a good face shoot of the kid. More times than not they will sell before the great action pic with the obscured face. BFiredup 04-24-2008, 06:42 AM OT, I do the same thing, I just started this weekend a sales site, and when a batter gets up and gets in his or her stance....I snap a close up shot....then on to the action shot....even when they are running the bases....and they taking a lead off...I will get a shot before motion starts... So I am glad to hear you say that, since I haven't sold anything yet....but at least my thoughts are correct in what to post.... JETA 04-24-2008, 10:09 AM These are nice OT. Great comp on them all. It's amazing to me you shoot with a Nikon. :D I'm really glad you mentioned you shoot horizontal on the high jump. I have yet to shoot high jump and am completely clueless on many of the field events. Brendan has a track meet today that is only field events. I'm hoping to try my hand at some new things. Again, awesome pics Larry! Old Timer 04-24-2008, 11:02 AM These are nice OT. Great comp on them all. Again, awesome pics Larry! Thanks JETA. I even appreciated the left handed Nikon compliment. Doesn't matter what you shot with just learn your equipment and stay within the parameters that it limits you to. Just as a side bar I was shooting into the sun on all but the last shot here so of course I metered for the exposure at the bar and set the exposure to manual. I just had to ignore the blown sky and hope to crop most of it out. I also was shooting with manual focus and prefocus on the bar. I shot from a lower angle to get a little more of a sense of height from the jumpers on all but the last image which was with the 300. I had already switched to another event and just caught this final jump from some distance away. JETA 04-24-2008, 12:21 PM Thanks JETA. I even appreciated the left handed Nikon compliment. I hope you know I was teasing you about being a Nikon user. :) |
