Hi guys, Just registered here to get some advice!

I'm after a DSLR, it will be my first one and I want to learn Photography.
I've read up reviews on the 450D (Rebel XSI, Kissx2) and the 40D.

The 450D with lense will cost around £530 and the 40D Body only will cost around £599.
I have a budget of around £650 give or take and I can't decide which one to get? Would it be best to get the 40D with a lense for around £150? or is the 450D lense kit a better option?

There is a Cash back offer from Canon that I haven't deducted from the prices above so you can take that into consideration! : http://canonlensacc2008.onlinerebates.com/howtoclaim.aspx

If I were to choose the 40D Body only (because the pictures quality is slightly better and better build?) which lense would you guys recommend for my budget? Bare in mind im just starting off and just want to take pictures of nearlly everything :p. But mostly people. An all rounder lense maybe? If anyone could recommend me a lense and tell me why, that would be great. I would prefer to stick with canon lense but any other brand wouldn't bother me. Thanks in advance!

OCP.

Usually the "kit" lenses offered with a new body are good values and work ok for general all around shooting. Since you don't seem drawn to any particular kind of shooting (landscape, sports, portrait, macro or whatever) the basic kit lens should be a good place to start.

Once you shoot for a while you will know what additional lenses or accessories would improve your photography.

BTW there is never a rush to spend more money, set aside the extra until your needs become clear. Likely what you will actually need or want is something entirely different than what you envision right now.
