View Full Version : Price of lens increase May 1st - officially
I received an email from Normancamera.com today stating that they were notified by Canon that the price of Canon lenses will increase as of May 1st. They did not specify by how much, but someone at Norman Camera said they thought it would be 8-10%.
I doubt if this will end with Canon.........at any rate, if anyone is thinking about purchasing a Canon lens, it might be good to do it sooner vs later......meaning May 1st is a week from Thursday.

Many goods will be rising in price thanks to the continuing fall of the dollar. The US is in very deep trouble.

mjs1973 04-23-2008, 04:14 AM Thanks for the heads up Liz.
Hey Brent,
If you're serious about switching to Nikon, let me know when you're ready to make the move. I may be able to help you liquidate some of your Canon gear if you plan on selling it. Mainly interested in the 70-200mm f/2.8 and the TC's. (I tried to PM you but you have reached your storage limit.)

completely serious, I'll drop you a line when I get back in the country and can actually do something with this stuff...
im switching to nikon because of the color reproduction, ergonomics, and AF. I'm currently testing a d300 for the weekend (shooting my current project with it) to see how i like it.
Tarheelvolvo 04-24-2008, 11:25 AM That's a shame...but understandable in this "global economy" we all live in. I did think that Canon was going to start rolling out more IS lenses to compete with the other brands that have IS/VR/etc... built into the camera bodies, when are we gonna see those??
Also, Livin I hear you were looking to liquidate some of your canon specific gear on the forums. I would def. be interested in some items when you get back. Also, what position did you play in Lacrosse? I was a D-pole for about 9 years and play in an adult league down here in Richmond. Good to see a fellow lax player! PM me when you get a chance, thanks buddy!
mn shutterbug 04-24-2008, 05:45 PM I may be interested in the 430EX. I have a son in law that works at a Best Buy and claims he can get things at cost. He just called and told me his cost for the flash is $244. I'd be better off buying from Amazon for $252 with free shipping and no sales tax. Anyway, contact me when you get back, please.

nice! i played attack all through high school, then middie during my short period of college lax. I always wanted to play d as well. and goalie. I just wanted to do everything!
For the people interested in equipment, I will be returning to the states on july 16th. At that point I will be seeing what interest there is in my equipment. from there ill decide if im going to sell. I'm about 80% sure I will.
I'm glad I got my order in for the Canon 10-22mm lens - it's being delivered today! I have today to try it out - then a weather report for 4-5 days of rain. :D

mjs1973 04-25-2008, 05:37 AM I'm looking forward to seeing some pics with it Liz. If it's at all possible, can you try to take some of the "same" photos that you took with the Tokina? I'm curious to see how much more the extra 2mm adds to the image.

I had to laugh when I read your post! Just a few minutes ago I was trying to decide where to try out this lens. One of my thoughts was Ridgewood, where I tried out the Tokina. I thought "same old same old" stuff - I have to find some place different.
After reading your post, I realized it's a good idea to go back and compare. Of course they won't be from the exact spot, and the lighting/sun will be different, but you can get an idea.
Thanks for the thought! You solved my "problem" and now I can get back to work - or I'll never get out of here. The lens should come before 2:00 today.

mn shutterbug 04-25-2008, 03:07 PM Does anyone know if their price increases will include flashes, or is it just lenses? I need to get one pretty soon.
gahspidy 04-25-2008, 05:19 PM As long as the price of petroleum continues to rise, everything else will go up with it eventually. Everything is either made from or made with the use of petroleum.
I just bought my Canon 85mm 1.8 and lovin it. Glad I got it now.
Loupey 05-05-2008, 08:41 AM Liz - I wanted to thank you for posting this earlier.
Although it was not the deciding factor for making my latest purchase, it did prompt me to buy it a day or two earlier than I had planned. I see now that it saved me almost 6%.
I owe you a dinner (or two) :p

Sounds good to me! BTW what did you buy if I may ask? I had purchased the Canon 10-22 at Norman Camera before the price went up. However, I exchanged it for the Tokina 12-24 which I had purchased to begin with!
BTW, I noticed the prices did not go up as much as Norman Camera said they probably would - 10%.
